  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I drove for the first time since the accident today. Stopped for a gas fill up and wash(lot of dust collected over past 6 weeks). An older gentleman filling up his circa 2000 E class asks how I like the new E class. I said I didn't know as I hadn't driven it yet. He looked puzzled and I explained my car wasn't a Benz. He walked around the car, poked his head in side and asked what it was.
He nearly fell over when I said hyundai...

Twenty minutes of chatting I offer to take him for a short drive, he parks his car and we drive for about 5 min.
He loves the car and we hadn't discussed price, When we get back to the gas station he asked if I mind driving a "lesser brand"... I explained that for 20k I don't mind driving a lesser brand. If floored him, He assumed the car would be priced in the mid 50s after the drive . I explained the genesis tops out at 42k.

Well George is now planning to buy a new Genesis.

One bad thing about this meeting, The Genesis is a year old, George is their target market, and he had never heard of the Genesis,

Great story!

But seriously, has George been living under a rock?

The Genesis has been featured multiple times in every online and newstand automotive publication. I've seen ads in business/trade magazines as well, not to mention the quite a few t.v. spots, including the Superbowl ads.

If Hyundai wants to compensate me in the form of no more car payments, I would be more than willing to put magnetic decals on the sides of my Genesis that read "Yes, it's a Hyundai!". :D

Not sure if they push their marketing harder depending on regions or if it's a national campaign. Here is SoCal they are going for broke with advertising. Billboards all over the place. Sponsorship at both Dodger and Angel games and both Stadiums (both teams are leading their leagues, so I guess it paid off) and television. I have a 5 mile commute round trip ( I know I should walk), and I still see at least 1 a day.

I never seen an ad for the Genesis, in this part of the country...

I received an email from my sales rep tonight thanking me for referring a friend to him, George must have made a bee line for the dealer.

Funny part he isn't my sales rep. He is the guy that helped me a couple of times so I had his card in my car...

Cool story!

For what it's worth, I was under the same rock George was up until a few months ago. I'd never heard of the Genesis. There was no advertising in this area and I don't pay much attention to what Motor Trend et al say.

Hyundai plastered this area with Azera ads and billboards when it came out. I guess it didn't pay off for them. I've yet to see another Genesis.

Glad you're feeling better by the way. :)

Great story!! and yes George is living under a rock. its called a BENZ !!!;)

Nice story!

Actually, I'm not really surprised that an "older" gentleman like George hasn't heard of the Genesis.

For people who live in certain parts of the country, didn't watch the SuperBowl (or didn't bother to watch the commercials), don't read auto publications, etc. - one could easily miss hearing about the Genesis.

After the initial splurge of Genesis commercials, I haven't seen a Genesis-specific commercial in ages.

Yeah, great story! I hope you told him about our little club here! We could certainly steer him in the right direction. :)

In any event - anyone who's surprised to hear people unaware of the Hyundai Genesis and what it is - take this into consideration: People still think Cadillacs are soft riding cars for the elderly. Even with all the publicity the CTS and Escalade get..

On my Cadillac site, people are always posting about races where the other guy in the M5 is completely shocked and confused at how he was just beat by a Cadillac. There are tons and tons of people who still don't know what a V-Series is.. I bet many here don't...

It's a BIG world out there.. There are a LOT of people who don't know a LOT of things.. This really isn't anything too strange. :)

I agree.. The STS-V is a bit better - but still too small for me..

And I appreciate you sending George the link!

Yeah that's what I'm talking about. Nice PIC! I had another guy in a BMW 650i ask me how I like the Genesis and that "I heard it was like the best car out there you can get right now.". I told him, I didn't know about that, but for 35 grand you get a lot of car. He thought it cost more.
