Hi there guys,

I am looking forward to replace by 2009 A4 which has been very reliable and served me well.

I have had few considerations on what car to choose based on how much I earn and other monthly expenses.

My choices are:

Acura TLX 2017/2018
Genesis 2016
Accord touring 2017
Infinity Q50 2016

I make 4.5k per month after taxes.Monthly expenses are 2k roughly right now.
leaves me with 2.5k roughly which is good enough.
All of these cars are close to 25k CAD. Would it make sense to buy a car worth this much? And how expensive could the repairs be so it doesnt break my bank.

Also, Audi would sell for 7-8k and I would use that + additional 4-5k as down payment, making loan amount close to 13-14k.

Car Insurance would range from 100 to 150 with Accord and genesis on the lower end of the spectrum.
And I drive 10,000 kms in a year which is mixed of highway/city.

Thanks for reading.

The Honda will be the most reliable and still have a factory warranty. The Acura and infinity will cost the most to maintain. The Genesis will be the most fun to drive, be fairly reliable and get you into an entry level luxury car.

Thank you. My wife has CRV 2017 and its definitely not fun to drive and CVT transmissions are not there yet to say the least.
I have my eyes for so long on genesis but missus points out the expensive repairs as it being a luxury car and Accord being a cheaper and a newer model as well. Decisions!

I went through the same deliberation (and gas mileage was a factor as well) and finally went with the Genesis because... I wanted that car :)

If you want the cheaper car to own overall it would probably be the Honda Accord from your list if you are thinking about a 2016 Genesis 5.0 Ultimate. The Honda has less gadgets that can go wrong. However, if you are looking a 2016 3.8 Genesis then the cost of ownership will be better due to not having $1000 a piece active shocks that will fail eventually. The Acura would be a nice choice as well if you like smaller cars. Nissan engines are hit or miss in terms of reliability, so I would not recommend the Infiniti Q50 for a long-term option.

Tip: Look at how much replacement parts like struts, alternators, etc. cost online for the car you want and then make your decision from there.

Depends on your personality. Looks like you have the income to be comfortable fiscally, so it comes down to the ride. If you like driving a really nice luxury car, the Genesis makes sense.

Genesis upkeep is less than other brands too.

I watched every review I could find before buying my Genesis. None of them ever described it as "fun to drive", and I would have to agree 100% with that omission. It's a car designed for comfort, not fun.

Gas mileage is not a factor as my current Audi is V6 as well and not better than all the above models. Will start test driving all the cars soon enough to figure it out.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!

I am looking for 2016 3.8 V6 which is more than enough power for me.
And I thought it was just Nissan CVT tranyy's which were bad and not the Infinite ones which runs into these issues. Glad to know.
I will check the cost to replace the parts and see which one makes more sense.

Thanks

All I look in the car is the comfortable ride with nice interior and some power. Genesis ticks those boxes without breaking my bank.

Also, what regular upkeep items should I be looking for in the car other than oil changes?

I am looking for car with comfort and quiet ride in mind. Lexus and Genesis comes to mind. However, genesis is offering more for the price point. Will test drive both most probably and see which one works best for me.

Then you're looking at the right car because that's where the Genesis excels.

The other cars I strongly considered were the 2016/2017 Lexus ES350 (inferior cruise control ruled that out), 2017 Kia Cadenza Limited (too hard to find since they didn't sell many) and the Mercedes C-Class, but finding one of those with the "Distronic" driver assist package was impossible.

And looking for something with AWD as I live in Canada which works in the favor of Genesis.

Could you tell if the Luxury trim in 3.8 v6 comes with heated steering wheel, safety warnings like lane departure etc?

Also, key fob doesnt have remote start?

@Jerrie86 - I live in Calgary & bought my 2016 3.8 Luxury used in January 2018 @ 10900 kilometers.
Now @ 24000 & no regrets. Lots of power, extremely quiet, great handling @ 8/10ths ( It's not a sports car) & 8.1 liters per 100 on highway on regular gas. Slight creaks from time to time from panorama sunroof but just turn up the 900 Watt Lexicon stereo ;). I would recommend the Luxury or technology package over the Premium version (it's kind of a rent a car spec) to get the heated steering wheel, better Leather & more comfortable drivers seat & that GREAT Stereo.

Honda is a good choice but really no where as nice a ride, or as quiet & no all wheel drive.
Genny is between a Mercedes E & S class in size for 60 to 80% less $$.
I like the $80 oil changes @ the Hyundai Dealer too instead of $400 @ the Benz dealer.
I am a former MB S class Owner retired 8 years ago & on a budget. Been driving Kia/Hyundai products for 7 years & will stick with them. Equal quality to Japanese cars, better warranty, better looking & more bang for the buck.

I haven't heard of a trim level called 'Luxury' but I'm in the US so you may have something different up there. Here we have Base, Signature, Technology and Ultimate. Each package comes with everything included in the previous one.

As far as I know, all AWD models come with the heated steering wheel and heated rear seats regardless of their trim level.

To get the Lane Departure features you would need at least the Technology package, which would also be part of the Ultimate package.

Remote start is done through the Blue Link phone app. It may be possible to add an aftermarket remote start that works with the key fob but I haven't looked into that.

Can't guarantee that all of this is 100% accurate for Canadian models though...

Wow. Thanks. I live in Toronto and weather is just crappy down here and AWD helps.
I am actually looking for the Luxury trim and as less miles on it as possible.
Like the 80 dollar oil changes. I pay 100 + for 10 year old Audi.lol

Here, all models dont come with heated steering wheel. Will make sure of that.

Wish key fob had remote start through Hyundai instead of third party and Canadian cars for some reason cant use Bluelink.

As per consumer reports survey - Genesis / Hyundai / Kia (all same manufacturer) took the top 3 spots in 2018 Best Car survey.
