  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2G Genesis Sedan (2015-2016)
Hi. As much as I love my 2015 Genesis 3.8 sedan, it has not been trouble free. Here’s the recap. Note, Hyundai warranty Has paid for everything. New starter, new transmission, new head unit (stereo), various sensors, moonroof, A/C leak. I will not include The four tire replacement at each 20k miles At $900 per swap. The car has 51k miles on it now.. Today, the head unit would not turn on after several start/stop attempts. It’s out of warranty and it’s upwards of $3k I’m told. Well, I tried it again a few minutes ago and the head unit works fine! Yay. A glitch? I am Out of the 5/60 warranty but still have 10/100 powertrain warranty. I own the car outright. Do I call it quits and sell it while I’m ahead?

There are other factors of course, but given the history and cost of a new head unit, I'd be looking at a 2020 or even a good deal on a 2019 if around. That head unit may go another ten years or ten minutes. I'd sell it while it works.

I personally would just keep the car and just replace the radio. Unless, you want a car note for x number of years just to avoid buying a new or even used radio.

You should consider the time and frustration cost in addition to the monetary cost. Depending on your financial situation, the price of a new car may be worth the peace of mind. However, even new cars can have problems, so you may end up with a new set of problems to deal with along with the price of a new car.

As long as your financial situation is stable, now may be a good time to buy. With everything going on in the world, car dealers and banks/finance companies may be willing to cut a good deal. However, unless your financial situation is very stable, it might not be a good idea to take on the added risk of a car loan right now. A car is ultimately a long-term purchase, so I would not make the decision to buy a new one based on the current economic situation. However, if you think that your frustration with your current car is going to induce you to buy a new one anyway, now may be a good time.

Deals on cars will never be better... Until the next "crisis" of course. Only you know how secure your financials are...

If your only real problem now is a radio, I'd try to cop a used one from ebay...

they are out there for considerably less than 3k. You do still have the Powertrain warranty.

The dealer said the satellite updates have recently been giving these units trouble. If it happens again, have a local mechanic disconnnect the battery for a few minutes and the head unit should reboot. He also suggests letting the head unit boot up completely when starting the car prior to shifting into drive. He said it’s very rare for these remanufactured units to fail especially one that’s only 1.5 years old. I’m giving it a couple of weeks to see what happens. My daughter starts college soon and I do not need a other car payment.

You don't need to pay a mechanic to disconnect the battery. It's extremely easy to do on your own at home. It'll save you the hassle of going to the shop.

Or you can pull the fuse for the head unit.... The location is in the owner's manual.

Who do you sell it to? No one needs a card today. I haven't driven mine for a month or so.
