  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

On account of the front license plate thread recently resurfacing, I thought I'd inform you all of something all Genesis owners (in front license plate-requiring states) should have: the Show-n-go retractable license plate frame. $37.99 on Amazon and worth every penny to avoid drilling into your grill (and tickets if you don't) and to gain a far more aesthetically pleasing look. This is on my father's 2015.

On another note, my new 2016 in Ibiza blue is currently in transport from Austin to Portland!

That looks great! I pick up my Ibiza blue from the dealer tomorrow. Do you know anything about the installation? I'm sure it required a couple holes to be drilled on the bottom and possibly getting a nut to the other side of the bumper or valence?

I don't see how that would avoid a ticket, unless you could activate it remotely from inside the car if you see a police nearby, or if they pulled you over from the rear.

I'm not suggesting driving around or even parking with the plate retracted, although there is a more expensive (and more breakable) remote-controlled version. Just pointing out how much better it looks to have the front plate located in a spot that doesn't infringe on the grille.

If I lived in state that required front plates (I don't), I would consider the remote-controlled version. Good to know it is available.

I beleive he was suggesting that some folks may choose to go without a front plate rather than drill into their grilles, which could get you a ticket I some states - though, I've gone without a front plate for 7 months in NJ with no issues even though I've been pulled over twice (speed traps - no tickets, though).

Ditto. NJ won't State Troopers will not stop or ticket you for a missing front plate even though you are supposed to have one.

Even if they wanted to, I think it is pretty hard for even the local police to pull someone over for not having a front plate. If they are going in the same direction as you, they cannot see the front.

If the police are going in opposite direction, they can see the front, but may have a hard time turning around and catching up to you. Plus, there may be a valid reason for not having a front plate (out of state tags, temporary tags, etc), so if they starting turning around every time the saw a front plate missing and tried to catch up with the car without the front plates and pull them over, a lot of times it would be for nothing.

I was out to dinner once and my car was parked in a stall like everyone else in the parking lot, head in. I came out after dinner to a ticket on my windshield for no front plate. The LEO had to have gotten out of his/her car and checked everyone's front bumpers for plates to have seen that.

I live in Southern California. With that said, I don't have a plate on the front of my Genesis. Yes, because I'm an idiot.

If the police are going to check front plates, a parking lot is much easier place for them to do it than on the highway. Police departments have budgets just like everyone else.

I am guessing you live a relatively affluent, low crime area? In high crime areas they usually don't have time to mess with that stuff.

In my area (No. VA) the police burn thru tax dollars like it was play money.

We even have a horse brigade (I kid you not) although I've never seen it deployed.

We've had ours professionally installed, but it comes with pretty clear instructions and seems like something that could be done without too much difficulty.

Ryan G: Hey Thanks. That might be something Ill have to look into. Its a shame they didn't use a linear actuator with limit switches instead of the motor and pulley system for the motorized version. That seems like it would be more durable as well as allow for a simple switch to deploy and retract the plate rather than to actually be outside and need to hold down the buttons. That might have to be a little project I look into.

Depends on where you live. I have gotten several warnings and tickets for no front plate on my cars for years. I finally gave up and realized it was not worth the thrill of no front plate. With the increased scrutiny due to terrorism, police are monitoring the roads more and in my state, a front plate missing is pretty sure to cost you $75.
