If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm a week into ownership of my 2015 3.8 AWD, and I already have to drop off the car tonight at the dealer to fix a slew of issues, including:

- None of the AM radio stations work.
- Drivers door needs more muscle than average to close. If I close it with the usual amount of force like any other car, it will not shut completely and the light will blink for the door.
- While driving or coasting at exactly 30 miles per hour, you can hear a fluttering sound coming from the passengers side area near the glove box. I emptied the glove box so it cannot
be any foreign objects. Driving me nuts!
- The steering wheel gives more feedback and vibrations on the highway than expected for a 3 year old car.
- The drives seat belt buckle was installed in the opposite direction.

Keep in mind this was a certified car that went through the list of inspections before it was put on the lot. I came from a 2010 Lexus LS 460, and believe me I'm not trying to compare the 2 brands,
but the fit and refinement between the 2 are leagues apart. I love the Genesis, but in no way should this car ever be compared to an LS. The refinement of the interior, smoothness of the engine and trans, along
with the super quiet interior in the Lexus is much better than the Genesis in my opinion. I hope that Hyundai stepped up their game in the latest models to compete; I want to see them do well considering its a
great car for the money. However, their quality of craftsmanship and QC overall needs to step up big time.

A lot of members on this forum have reported that when buying a CPO car from a Hyundai dealer, you get the extended drivetrain warranty restored (normally only available to original owners), but they don't actually do all the inspections they promised to do. But they usually will fix anything you find wrong shortly after purchase.

I do get the value of the extended warranty with CPO. That said, part of the certification process is a multi-point inspection of the vehicle. What's the point of paying a premium for a like new car with extended warranty if they never did the due-diligence of making sure its in good working order?

I can understand your frustration. I never listen to AM so I can see that being missed. OTOH, a couple of people at the dealership had to move the car and you would think at least one of them would notice the door problem and fix it.

It's a 152-point inspection. The do no more and do no less than what's on the checklist. They should have provided you the results along with service history and a carfax. If anything is checked "passed" and you're having a problem with it, that's a fail on the service department as a whole. I had a few issues with mine but all but one is solved. The service department here is better than average so I'm glad I live near this one. Can't beat 10yr/100k mile warranty though and I drive A LOT.

Good luck with getting the issues fixed

A lot of owners on this forum who bought CPO vehicles from Hyundai would dispute that they do the entire checklist. Maybe other brands are also lax in that regard also.

I get the dealership wants to push the car as fast as possible but at what expense? You guessed it, the consumer. Granted, most issues are covered by the limited warranty (up to 60k miles) but, no one wants to buy a "new" car and have issues that early in ownership.

Agreed to the above posts. What worries me now is did they slip on a few key wear and tear items such as brakes, rotors, shocks, etc. Granted, the car had only 29k miles when I bought it, but no one should be taking the car in for repairs a week after purchasing a CPO car!

I am not justifying the lack of inspections for CPO cars by Hyundai dealers. I am just summarizing some of the many similar complaints I have seen on this forum over the last 9 years that I have been a member. Buyer beware.

Yes these sorts of problems have certainly been reported. Of course there are problems with new cars also but I don’t think they are to the same extent. They are one reason why some used cars may not always be the steal that they seem to be.

In every case on this forum, where a purchaser of a CPO car posted a complaint about the inspection not being done properly, the dealer fixed every problem brought to their attention. I guess that many dealers figure the owner will do the inspection for them.

Personally, I have not purchased a used car since I was a college student (when that is all I could afford). The stress is not worth it to me. Of course, used cars are a lot more reliable these days than 35 years ago, and a lot cars come off lease with nothing wrong with them. When I was college, almost all used cars were sold or traded in because there was something wrong with them.

Exactly the same deal here. I bought the car last Tuesday. Picked it up on Friday evening because they missed a windshield chip right at periphery of line of sight and a hook for the cargo net lying in the middle of the trunk. Part of the 150 point checklist includes checking the windshield and trunk. The good thing is that as soon as they were aware of it, they replaced the windshield (after first attempting to fix it).

Over the weekend, I found three additional problems. The rain detected wipers don't work. The trunk lid unlocks but does not open up (negating any advantage with Smart Trunk) and worst of all, the car has an illegal tint to the point where I have to roll down the front windows when driving at night. Going back to the dealer tomorrow. At this point, I have had the car for 3 days and the dealer for 4+ days.

The thing that worries me is that if they missed the obvious visual things, what did they miss with the out of sight, more important things. These are some things that Hyundai will have to improve. Customer Service has been outstanding. If they continue with that and improve the processes, they will be in a formidable position in a few years.

 Strange. Most things mentioned would have been easily detected in a test drive. For example, you bought a car with tinted windows, which you don't like. Huh?! What next? I know, you hate the car's color.

Getting that full "CPO inspection" is always a crap-shoot, regardless of brand. Why? "It's got a warranty." That's mostly what you're paying for anyways. The manufacture or 3rd party insurer pays for any warranty covered issues.

I recently passed on a 1 year old MB E400 due in part to finding multiple minor issues on the short test drive. Noises, worn trim pieces, etc. Got the usual response; "it's got a warranty." Told them I wouldn't even consider it until everything was fixed as it already should have been when listed for sale. But really just don't want to deal with that or other issues which end up being classified as "working as designed." Or worse, not covered.

And yeah, to the point already made here. You don't know how that car was cared for in the past. Has it been abused? Is it approaching lemon status due to unknown repair history? At the very least, you expect it to be thoroughly inspected (as promised) to ensure you are getting that "CPO experience." And not just another used car with a warranty.

The tinted windows were great in daylight. It was only at night that I realized that they were too dark. And you think I should have realized that, but trained professionals whose job it is to check them should not be faulted? What next? I know, I should check the emissions of a CPO.

If the tint was illegal, you should get them to remove it for free. The Georgia limit is 32 VLT on all windows including rear. I think this would be an easy legal case.

I don't recall if there are any heater or radio elements on the rear window that would get damaged if the tint is removed.

Yeah. They are doing that. Customer service is really good. And these teething troubles will get resolved. And I'll enjoy driving this car. It's just that Hyundai needs to address these things if they want to compete with Lexus and BMW.

I had some issues with a used Infiniti I bought a decade ago, but it wasn't a CPO and I hadn't purchased it at a Infiniti dealer. I had no trouble getting them fixed since it was still under warranty. On a CPO from a dealer, I just expect a higher standard. And I should be expecting that.

Another sigh...dealer called me back saying they can't replicate the problem. I told them it only occurs within a few minutes from a cold start (which I stated yesterday when I dropped it off), so now they want to keep the car until tomorrow. They also said the AM stations work, which i find to be remarkable since they would not work for me at all anywhere I drove between home and work.

If you can, it's always best to recreate issues with the service adviser and/or mechanic. I'd drive over there in the AM and start it up together. Then point out any other issues they "can't replicate."

Gotta love dealers. Doesn't matter how cheap or expensive the car is, what brand, or location... they can never reproduce anything.

I'm taking the car back today as they could not replicate the problem, stating they only heard a faint flutter but could not pinpoint the area /cause of the issue. I'm off work on Friday so I'm going to drive there in the AM when they open and drive with a tech
