  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello,
The following is an email I sent to SiriusXM:
"Up until about the middle of last year I was able to use the voice command to select a channel by name. eg. I would say "Channel Bluegrass Junction" and the channel would switch to Bluegrass Junction. Now when I say "Channel Bluegrass Junction" or any other name I get some random channel number. I have a 2012 Hyundai Genesis. The Hyundai tech questioned that I was ever able to select a channel by name. I remember specifiacally that I could because when I said " Channel Bluegrass Junction" the female voice would come back with " Channell Bluegrass JUNKTON. My question is can you say with any degree of certainty that I can no longer use that voice command to select a channel as a result of a change by Sirius XM?".....Their response (not unexpected) was that it must be a hardward/installation probelm. I did have the latest map update installed last year but the problem started a few months after the update. Can you shed any light on why am I having this problem?
Thank you,
Gary

On my 2009/Tech sedan there are a few options in the DIS XM "Settings" page that affect the stored channel name database. One option is a switch style to select display channels by name or by number. The other is the "Category Filter" (not the same as the "Category List" on the main XM menu) where you can select types of channels you like (sports, country, talk, rock, etc). On my car these check boxes randomly seem to be forgotten and when that happens none of the station text names show up while tuning nor work in voice command mode. Verify your desired categories are checked... then a few minutes later the channel names database should re-populate and the voice commands ought to work.

Thank you for your reply. "All Categories" were still checked. The other thing I noticed is that when I use the voice command "channel by name". Instead of hearing the repeated command followed by a ping and a list of channel names on the screen to choose from (as indicated in the DIS user manual), I hear the repeated command followed by TWO pings which ends the session. Oh well. I think I will no longer be able to use "channel by name" voice command. Something has changed and I am simply going to accept it.
