  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm about out of the 3 month trial. I asked the dealership about the $77/year deal and they said they knew nothing about it.

Sirius sent a renewal notice for $142.50.

I want to get this going, by money order.

Anyone who has seen the $77 deal recently? and is that for the same service level as the 3 month trial?

Tks

Did you get something in the maile for XM and Best of Sirius?

If you call XM and tell them you got an email with the $77 offer they should accept it (this does not include The Best of Sirius). Thats how I got my 1/yr for $77.

XM has what they call a "Retention Department". Ask for that department and be insistent and prices can be lowered to as little as about $4 per receiver per month.

I'm going to answer this as best I can from memory, as I'm not home at the moment. For cars with the TECH Pkg.

That $77. figure you often see is for the discounted XM only. In addition to that $77. you have to pay the "Royalty Fee" which XM must pay the owners of the music. I can't remember how much that fee is, but I think it is somewhere around $20. In addition, if you want the "Traffic" information, with both the small icons that show where there is a blockage, road work or accidents, plus the red/yellow/green road information on the screen, that will cost you additional. If I remember correctly, when I ordered EVERYTHING, it cost me somewhere around $140 a year.

Please note that although you pay a set amount for the Traffic Icon on your screen, which shows where there are blockages, road work, etc, and the R/Y/G lines that show on your screen, they are independent of each other. If you pay for one, you get them both. Your screen can show one or the other or both. Normally, the Traffic icon will display everywhere, however the R/Y/G lines only show in areas where available. In my area of Florida, the r/y/g lines show everywhere, but on my last trip to New York, they only showed up in some areas, and not others, and even then, they only showed up on major Interstates.

Royalty fees are $12.95/yr... so the $77 plan turns into $90+ after taxes per year. NAVtraffic is cool but at $2.99/mo isn't worth it for me...

Now that I'm back home, I made sure of what to hit when trying to get the two traffic info things mentioned above. (DIS Tech)

(A). When already in the Map screen showing the GPS Map, and only if the word "Traffic" shows up in the upper left corner, just below the map scale, push the DIS Knob. Then on the next screen, right side of screen, go to "Nav Traffic Info", and what comes up is the icons that already are on your Nav Screen for backups, accidents, etc. If you then push your DIS Knob on any one of them, it tells you more about what is happening at that spot.

(B). When already in the screen showing the GPS Map, (or any screen for that matter),
1. Push the "Navi" button on your consule.
2. On the next screen, enter "Settings",
3. Now the right side of the same screen lights up. Enter "Map Display".
4. On the next screen, place check mark on "Show Traffic On Map".
Now you can push the "Map" button to return to the map screen.

Now you will get the Icon information (shown in "A" above) only when information is available, and the Red/Yellow/Green road/traffic conditions (shown in "B" above), only when available.

For the Icons (in A) and the R/Y/G traffic conditions to show up, it has to be available in the area you are located in at that moment. To get anything, the work "Traffic" must be showing in the upper left of the map screen. Even though it is showing, you may get either just A or B or neither or both. If no word "Traffic" showing, you will NOT get either.

May not be worth it to pay extra for this through XM. As for myself, "A" above shows up in most places. "B" above shows up in only a limited amount of places. (Thats why they say "where available") BTW, "B" above only shows up in the 4 mile scale or less. Both A and B must get their information from the local DMV's and if local DMV does not supply XM with the information, it will not show up on your screen.

Great info Bob, thanks.
