  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Bought 2019 G80 3.3t on 12-21-20. Xm worked perfectly for about 6 weeks.

After a few minutes, xm will not allow channel change. I have to reset the system to get it to work, but the problem just recurs. Is there a fix?

Welcome. Moving this out of the community lounge.

I have a '19 G80 3.3T and this started happening to me as well about a week ago.
When I first start up the car, I can change channels on the SiriusXM, but after a few minutes, the channel locks. Sometimes the display will change to the new station, but the channel does not actually change. Last night I got completely locked out of the SiriusXM yet it was still playing. If I selected SiriusXM from the "Home" page, the cursor would freeze for 12 seconds before allowing me to make another selection. If I hit the "SiriusXM" button on the dash, nothing would happen.
A few days ago, the navigation locked up when this happened and even froze on my heads up display.
I've tried turning the car off and opening the door to fully shut off the radio, but this has no effect. I must exit the vehicle with the fob for the radio to work again. All other audio sources are functional.
Perhaps this is a software glitch c/t this model.

I'm having a very similar issue with my '19 G80. When I start up I can change Sirius XM channels but after a few minutes I cannot change. Even when a new song comes on the channel, the display doesn't change. If I try to change channels, I get the "acquiring signal" notice in blue. And now after a few minutes the screen goes to the menu and highlights XM and the sound goes off for a few seconds then comes back on and a notification of "featured favorites updated".

This is exactly what I experience as well.

I just called my dealership who tells me that they are aware of the issue but have no fix and directed me to Genesis Customer Care at 844 340 9741. Customer care tells me that Sirius XM pushed out an update 2 - 3 weeks ago that has caused issues and Sirius XM is working on a fix. I let them know that I have Sirius XM in my Toyota Tacoma and it does not have the issue so I find it hard to believe that it is a Sirius XM issue.

I then called Sirius XM technical support who tells me they have not pushed any updates to Genesis vehicles and if there was an update they would send it to the dealers so they could install it.

Classic case of finger pointing.

And by the way, I live in Tucson Arizona. When I bought the car there was a Genesis dealer in Tucson. Not anymore...I have to drive to Scottsdale or Gilbert AZ for service and forget about the concierge service.

Very disappointed in the brand. Stop sponsoring sporting events and focus on your customers.

So many people use the wrong terms for things, and I think that adds to the confusion here.

No. Sirius did not "push" any "update" to any Genesis cars. I have no knowledge of this, but it seems like instead that they changed something about their data stream for traffic info. This change may or may not have been within whatever protocol spec that they and the the companies they work with agreed to some time back. Genesis likely has some bug or shortcoming in the radio firmware that made it unable to correctly deal with the new data stream. The fact that other cars were able to deal with it points somewhat to the mistake being Genesis's, but it does not yet prove that.

It does seem that Sirius has reverted the change or something, because it seems to be back to working correctly today, at least for me.

No extended driving today, a few short trips but no issues today.

Good explanation joegr, thanks.

Yes. Thank you for the explanation. However on my 5 minute drive home just now I had the exact same issue and this was after Sirius sent a “reactivate signal” to my vehicle.
Curious to know if I’m the only one continuyeith the problem.

No, mine is back to having problems too.

See this thread. There are many others experiencing the same issue. It seems to be related to how XM sends it's signal/data to the Genesis unit and the unit not handling it properly and getting locked up.

Home screen freezes up

I'm having a similar problem with my 2015 Genesis 3.8 Ultimate. MnSoft said there might be a problem with SXM's TraveLink and Hyundai's receivers.

My 2019 G80 Sport 3.3T is having the same exact issue. Had XM resend signal and dealer couldn't fix it. Going to give them a couple weeks and then will start rattling the cages at my dealer and then corporate. Unacceptable s/w issue.

My Service Advisor made it sound like they needed my "numbers" to address the issue. It seems they may have disabled something, whether it be Sirius Data or something else, to stop the lockups rather than actually repairing the system at this time.

brand new 3 day old Hyundai Palisade with same issue, I don't care for Sirius and won't use it, but I have it free for 3 months, when I attempted to access it last night it hung up the HU, data for traffic isn't working.

personally don't really care, but whatever it is seems to be across the Hyundai brands

I was told that the real fix won't be before April, at the soonest. Until then apparently you have to get Sirius to disable traffic link.

There is an extensive information on this issue in the "Home screen freezes up" thread in this forum. My resolution of this issue is documented here.
Solution
Short term: Cancel/Disable SiriusXM Data subscription (Travel and Traffic). You will need to call SiriusXM.
Long term: Hyundai/Genesis provide software update to MapnSoft. I understand this is currently being worked on.

Your situation and efforts are exactly like mine...called Genesis they said call Sirius, who said call the dealer. Unfortunately the dealer I bought the car from no longer maintains Genesis. They've become Hyundai only.

i have had the same problem on a 2018 g80. freezes on sirius, says 'acquiring signal' for each station i change to. refresh signal from sirus clear it up sometimes. shut off engine and wait a few minutes clears it sometimes. frustrating but somewhat comforing to know that others are experiencing the same thing.

Schadenfreude is defined as feeling happy when something goes wrong for someone else.
