Been here awhile...
I know know just WHY I've been buying my (auto) tires at Discount Tire for over two decades. "Six Tires, No Plan" explains it. Written by Michael Rosenbaum, it is a very good read about the founder and owner of Discount Tire, Bruce T. Halle. He started Discount Tire over 50 years ago with literally just 6 tires and no plan. He now owns 800 stores and is one of best examples of paying it forward you'll ever see. Discount Tire is run the way that the likes of Wal Mart can never achieve.
I was in my local Discount Tire store in Sierra Vista on 10 Mar getting my Gennis tires rotated and the manager told me about the book, so I downloaded to my Kindle while still in the store, and started reading it. It's hard to put down. Everybody knows about Sam Walton, blah blah blah blah blah, but seriously, Sam Walton's story pales in comparison.

Our local store manager, Tony d'Oca, is mentioned in book, near the end, and I've known Tony for quite a while. I always wondered why Discount Tire had very little managerial turnover. It's because Bruce Hall takes care of his employees (each store is a 'family') and goes to great lengths to ensure that customers are treated in the manner that he or his employees would want to be treated.
It's a great read and well worth the price - like I said, I've been dealing with Discount Tire for 22 years and have no plans to ever buy my tires anyplace else. And this explains it!
I think I recounted in a different thread about the tires on my 2012 Genesis. When we got the car, in Aug 2011, I had put new Yokohamas on my existing Sonata about 6 months prior. I sold the car to my dealer and that was that. I went to Discount Tire the day after I traded the Sonata and asked about transferring the tire warranty or refund. The asst. manager I talked to said there was no refund, BUT they would balance and rotate the tires on my Geneisis FREE of charge for the life of the tires. That was kewl! They offered to cover my Michelin tires for a nominal fee, but I'd already gotten the tire and rim warranty from the dealer (the Zurich plan). Over the years I've had several flat tires, all fixed free at Discount Tire.
TO me that is the way a company should be run and I will not buy tires anyplace else (plus the match anybody's price). Woot!
