  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Mr. Park its time you bought the R-spec so you can put me in my place!

You contradicted your self and got called out on it. I don't need to put you in your place, you've done it to yourself.

This is what I said...
"Nope..I dont care what the stat sheet says for EITHER CAR". You seem to think I have a hang up on your 4.6 V8. It's you with the inferiority complex!! I said what was "stated," see the quotes, (they mean something) for both cars.

"But if you really want to be accurate for the record...I was simply responding to another post who was making it as if the V8 4.6 liter was faster. I was just throwing back some accurate #'s according to what was "stated". I actually copied it from an earlier post. I don't drive a 290 HP V6 as was quoted. So I was trying to make the point that the 2012 V6 is faster...right?"

Lets keep this on topic, enough of the speculating. If you have an article that directly compares the 2012 V6 to the 4.6L V8 under controlled conditions, that states the V6 is faster, I'd love to see it. For those of you underwhelmed with your V8 performance, some have pulled their ESC fuses and been shocked at the level of nannying that is going on. Do so at your own risk though.

No one really cares about tenths of a second unless you are tracking the car.
This is from another post by forzza1...the #;s for the 4.6 are accurate according to different sites. . SO, I have to assume they are just as accurate for the 2012 V6. Again, I don't necessarily feel that they are accurate, and I wont be pushing my car. Not this one!! The only reason I reposted the stats prior was because of a particular member that seemed to be so offended by me saying I didn't think the 4.6 would do 5.5 from 0-60. It was never intended to be a pissing contest.

People are too hung up on HP numbers. As far as OP, if it's really going that slow, take it to the shop to have it looked at.

I used to drive a car that was almost as quick as this, and it's comparable. I've also driven a newer model G37 and it's close to that as well.

Yep, I do drive the 2012 3.8.
We know that.

If I wanted a performance car that was track able it would not be the Genesis thats all!
This isn't a discussion about tracking the car. This is not a race car forum nor a Corvette forum. Check the website you are in. Does it say www.genesisowners.com??? Do you have multiple car forums open on the web browser at the same time?

The performance #'s between the V6 and the 4.6 are not far off? Are they? Go Check! Part of my reason for purchasing it after test driving both cars. Reason being...weight and GDI!
There is a flaw in your reasoning. The 0-60 & quarter mile runs are not far off when comparing a "2012" model Sedan 3.8 to a "2010" model Sedan 4.6. That is because the '12 Sedan 3.8 has 8-speed transmission (shorter gearing) plus the substantial increase in power (333hp) over the previous model. The 2010 Sedan 4.6 has 6 speed transmission (taller gears) and weighs more.

Not to mention an improved compression ratio
Again you are comparing a new model to the old. Not a fair comparison.

and a better steering feel IMO on the V6.
That's because the 3.8 version weighs less, in the front. More balanced front to rear weight distribution is what's helping you with the better steering.

I did my homework and bought the car I wanted.
You didn't do enough homework. You chose the 3.8 because it's cheaper and you can save a little more on the gas.

I don't get why some of the 4.6 V8 guys get so insulted. Maybe it's because it's not an R-Spec. All of the HP #'s represented by most manufactures are measured from the flywheel...Not where the rubber meets the road.
You don't get it? That is perhaps you are here to talking smack on the Sedan 4.6 and stir up for flame war? You waking up now? Ding Dong? You need to take time and be more considerate before posting shit.... Your ignorance is obvious by reading your posts here. The 5.5 sec time for the 4.6 Sedan is actually conservative number. Some source have managed to 5.3 from a 6-speed Genesis Sedan 4.6.

And even with your 2012 8 speed 3.8 model you will get spanked by a 6-speed 4.6 in the highway pulls to the triple digits. I have test driven one back in 2010 and took it up 130+ mph in no time. The pull was ferocious. Faster than my Mazdaspeed 3 and Lexus IS350.

You want some serious highway pulling machine, get either the 4.6 or R-Spec 5.0 SEDAN. They are easily faster than the coupe.

To be fair you are quoting performance #'s from a 2009 V6 car that has way less power and displacement:

2009 Hyundai Genesis 4.6 Sedan 0-60 mph 5.5 Quarter Mile 13.9 ★ Editor's Choice ★

2009 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 Sedan 0-60 mph 5.9 Quarter Mile 14.3

The stated performance #'s on the 2012 V6 are better than the 4.6 liter engine!! Just saying...

2012 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 Sedan 0-60 mph 5.4 Quarter Mile 13.8
Again, you are comparing a newer vehicle to the old. The reason for nearly the same 0-60 acceleration and quarter mile time is due to the close gear ratio on your 8-SPEED TRANSMISSION and the added power. The 4.6 8-speed model isn't listed in this 0-60 source. The 4.6 8-speed should be getting 5.1~ 5.3 sec 0-60. The REAL BENEFIT is when you take the car to the highway. Try 80- 150 pull with a Genesis 4.6 and come back here. It gets faster at higher speeds.

So...if we are talking about performance why would anyone by the 4.6 right now? I have not and prob. will not ever drive my Genesis as hard as I drove my track car (04 WRX with 300 BHP) That car had 20 plus pounds of Turbo charged boost to rip around autocross tracks. I spent 8 years learning about how to make power. I'm no expert. But I know a bit. If I am wrong about the 4.6 reaching 5.5 secs, so be it. Enjoy it!
You won't even need an 8-speed. A 6-speed Genesis 4.6 will beat your little '04 WRX in the highway. You purchased the wrong car (Sedan 3.8). Now you are crying out loud because you have been proved wrong.

Holy necro-thread.

Nope..I dont care what the stat sheet says for EITHER CAR. Just like you quoted me..I didn't think the 4.6 would do 5.5 sec.
You just don't like to be corrected by someone do you? Get used to it. This is internet forum.

I don't think my V6 will do that either. Could I be wrong, sure. Thats just me.
This is wrong way of thinking. Because it's a luxury car, it MUST go slower than the sportscar type of mindset.

I don't drive a 290 HP V6 as was quoted. So I was trying to make the point that the 2012 V6 is faster...right?
No. You are wrong, again. As mentioned by I earlier, you left out a 4.6 8-speed version. That car is faster than your little '12 3.8 at "all speeds". I also said the old stinky version 6-speed 4.6 will still be faster from highway speeds. This 0-60 and quarter mile doesn't mean everything.

Seriously, if you want me to tell you the 4.6 Genesis is a track ready race car and my V6 is a it's little brother..I'm good with that. It's almost like you used be be the big boy on the block when the Genesis came out, and now...not! Mr. Park its time you bought the R-spec so you can put me in my place!
Nobody told you the 4.6 is a track car. It's a luxury car that can perform in the real world, real streets. This is not a race course you newbie. We have Mustang and Corvette forums for that.

Mr. Park won't need an R-Spec to beat your car. All he would need is a good'ol 6-speed 4.6.

...thats all I was trying to say. I love the Genesis. On the highway the car is effortless. I have no hate for the V8;)
The ancient 6-speed 4.6 will be faster than your Subaru WRX in the highway.

I said this already.

And you see, it's the streets and highways where 99.9% of people drive on. Public road.

Who cares about stupid racing in road course tracks. I really think you had race car forums opened and got confused Genesis with sports cars.

You do realize that:
A) The last post in this thread before you started posting is a year old.
B) The guy you're arguing with hasn't posted in the forum since September 2012.
C) The guy you're arguing with probably doesn't come here any more. See B).

Response to A, B, & C. That's OK. The message needs to be delivered so other members and viewers can see it.

Actually I was googling and came across a non-sense the guy was posting about so I responded. This happens to be genesisowner forum. :D

Alright, party on then. Just making sure you weren't expecting a timely response to your very valid points...
