  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My Smart cruise control is not “smart” anymore.

The "famous" problematic brake diode was replaced under a new recall (at least in Canada) and smart cruise control feature is gone. SCC is still working up to the point when the engine can slow down the car by lowering its RPM; when breaks are required to be applied the SCC just disengages.

I suspect that a new item that previous diode was replaced with, just doesn’t let a stop signal to pass through and break lights don’t go ON, then the main computer detects it and decide to disengage SSC; so, the car just rolling.
It took my dealer 2 days to figure it out; when they put back an old diode everything worked fine. They opened an engineering case (I’m not sure if it’s a right word for it) with Hyundai Canada.

Please check your SCC and raise the issue; I think more complaints will speed up the process for a new repair/ recall.

I took my 2011 Genesis in last week for my stop lamp switch recall and another issue with a PCS valve. i could not pass my inspection until i got the engine light, which was caused by the Pcs Valve, to go away. took 2 weeks to get those parts ordered and in, and once they replaced these two, when i was driving home, my genesis started to do the exact same thing as what yours was doing. Only problem here is that i have taken it two times back and they cannot fix it. They are now saying that it might be something on my end or just happened. I told them heck no, was working perfect til they changed something. Was curious if you know of anything more in regards to this issue?

I don't think I can add anything else. As I said before, it's an item replacing the brake lights diode is causing the problem for SCC. I’m sure many people just don’t recognize this problem with SCC and thinking that it’s a normal operation.
I haven't heard anything from Hyundai for the last 5 months. I hope they have some people to support old model Genesis issues.

I had the recall done on the brake diode about two months ago. Everything was normal when I took it in and was also normal when I got it back so in my case the new part did not effect any SCC function or anything else.

Hey Beau2424 & alex55, did you ever get this SCC problem resolved?

I just noticed I also have this same problem.

I have a 2012 3.8L and love it. Cruse control has failed. Big light on the dash. The cruse in ALL 2012 genisis models is the smart cruse control. Its a module behind the front bumper cover in the center of the bumper. It hase a redar sensor integrated in it to detect distance from the cars in front of you on the highway. The part in not sold by car part sites only dealerships for a whopping price of $4530. Big black market for used ones on Ebay.

You might try looking here for a used part if you want to fix it without dropping $4k Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market

Does anyone know if a used cruse control module, needs to electronicly calabrated or integrated into the cars computer system. The dealership says no one can install the SCC without the dealership doing these things. I smell bull droppings. There are many used modules for sale. Just match the part number on your car. I think mine is a 96400 3M200.
I think this is all you need to do but would like anyone with experience with this to let me know.

I would find a good local mechanic and ask them. More than likely, if you can't just do it yourself they should be able to do it with their computer.

You can turn the ignition on but not start the motor, let the car sit for 2 minutes, turn off the ignition for 2 minutes then start the car. This will reset the ECU and calibrate new sensors and modules after installation.

Capredfish here again... I bought a used module on ebay for $675. I got a great tip from the Lot where we got the car. He said to go to a good body shop to get the module installed. They will take the front bumper apart, replace the module and reassemble the front end fast and cheap. This is what they do to repair cars.
I went to a highly recommended body shop, they quoted me $100 and did it in 2 hours. It works great with NO CALIBRATION (dealer scam).
