Smart Cruise Control not detecting stopped cars

Hello

I want to have a help and an advice to fix my issue

i have 2016 genesis with Smart Cruise control and since i bought the car i use the smart cruise control and its not detecting the stopped cars only detects the moving cars in front of my car and thats working fine at any speed and situation

but when it detect stopped cars in the jammed traffic or on the traffic signal while it was working before

please what is the advice ?

by the way emergency brakes system in enabled


please please please have any one faced this

I have a feeling it may not detect stopped things just like the emergency braking system will only work with moving things. I always use cruise control myself but never really noticed if it detects stopped cars or not. Cruise control is about the only way I can stay away from speeding tickets.

I sure wouldn't want to be relying on cruise control in stop-and-go traffic anyway.

If you have the right menu up on the dash it will show a car icon in front of you if it thinks there is a car ahead...is it there?

And I will say that mine does see stopped cars, but it waits too long and then really hits the brakes harder than I would. There is not a gradual letting off the gas and then gentle brake application. It's really makes you pucker a bit until it finally starts to slow down.

hr radar can be bit slow in locking on to the car ahead and the further the distance, the slower the lock-on. If you have the heads-up display, look for a car icon to pop up. That means the radar is locked on to the car ahead. If you are at highway speed and traffic stops, the lock-on will come too late and you will either stop very abruptly or possibly even hit the car ahead. If I don't have the car icon showing, I brake manually and then release the brake and re-engage the CC when I an fairly close to the car ahead. That gives my radar a quicker lock-on and gives me a smooth automatic stop.

If I have the car icon showing at highway speed, I let the CC stop me behind the car ahead at traffic lights. The stop is always smooth.

One caveat: if the car ahead slows, then darts into an adjacent lane, the radar will lose lock and your car will accelerate abruptly. That can be a bit scary. It should be fixable in software, but that will probably be next generation.

I think you have a misunderstanding of the cruise control. It is not an autopilot system and is not designed to be used in stop and go traffic. It is an assist for highway driving.

it was appearing to me in the headup display and then was stopping but now its not detecting any car ever and that happenes with stopped cars only

this feature was working with me fine so why its stopped now ?

It's totally designed to work with stop and go traffic. That is the real beauty of it when creeping along at rush hour. I also like it for freeway trips, but around town it's almost dangerous because of running up on fully stopped traffic.

So I believe the sensor for the cruise is behind the bumper, on the right side of the car kinda next to the fog light. I would look up there and make sure there is no debris hanging on. Looking at my car its next to impossible to really see it unless you dropped the front pan.

Good points and one other to consider as an adjunct to your caveat is that like during heavy multi lane traffic when that car darts out from in front of you and another takes it place you can get the acceleration and the radar might not have time to lock on to the second car that is now in it's place to prevent a collision.

I think to avoid the stopped car when approaching at close to highway speed you can put the interval at max and that I think will start the deceleration a little sooner.

no the problem is not when the car infront of me going out of the lane the problem is not ever detecting stopped car even in slow speed from long distance it looks like there is no car infront of me

I believe your SCC and AEB are working as designed. You should read about the AEB in section 5 or the Owners Manual starting on page 5-45. Here are a few excerpts.

The AEB is designed to function
above approximately
5 mph (8 km/h) and below
approximately 110 mph (180
km/h).
• The AEB does not detect:
- Persons or animals.
- Oncoming vehicles in the
opposite lane or a vehicle in
an intersection.
- Stopped objects.

The SCC and the AEC work together.

I believe your SCC and AEB are working as designed. You should read about the AEB in section 5 or the Owners Manual starting on page 5-45. Here are a few excerpts.

Dynamic Cruise control only works with moving objects and is the perfect companion in stop anmanual.d go traffic on a highway especially when creeping along.

So many people post on here with opinions and never have looked at the owner's manual.

This is precisely when & where the SCC was designed to work - and it works very, very well. I use it when travelling into downtown Chicago on the "expressways" all the time. I have gone as far as 25 miles in stop/go/up to 50/stop/go traffic without touching any pedals and only using "resume" on the steering wheel when at a stop for more than 3 seconds.

There is not a gradual letting off the gas and then gentle brake application. It's really makes you pucker a bit until it finally starts to slow down.

Mine is very gradual. You might have your distance keeping set too short.

It's totally designed to work with stop and go traffic. That is the real beauty of it when creeping along at rush hour.

This is normal. As is pointed out in another reply - it does not work on stopped objects (which were not moving earlier and that it did not have a lock on earlier)
