  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a 2012 4.6 and today went out to start it as usual and upon getting in drivers seat got a warning light that no key was present. The key would not unlock the doors or open trunk either. I then put it in the smart key holder and car started right up and doing errands through out the day operated as normal locking and unlocking doors folding mirrors, etc. This morning I went out and key was not identified again. The battery is only about 1 1/2 years old and car has 67,000 miles, any ideas? Curt

I would make sure the battery contacts are good, and try a new battery first. Otherwise, it could be that the smart key is failing. Is your other smart key working correctly?

Bqtteries don't last forever. Cheap and easy way to find out if that is the case.

Sorry, the battery I was referring to was the car battery. I tried my other smart key and it would identify and start car but would not work on lock and unlock or open trunk. I then replaced the fob battery in the one that did not identify and it works now. Both fobs work now but not the other functions immediately but after putting both in the key holder all functions returned. By the way I bought this car new in January 2012 and this is my first problem since buying everything else works on car. Curt

...would not work on lock and unlock or open trunk....but after putting both in the key holder all functions returned....
If it has been a long time since one is used, the rolling codes can get too far out of sync. On some remotes, you can get them back to working by pressing one of the buttons quickly several times. I don't know if that would be the case for yours, but you found the way via the reader slot anyway.
