I have a 2009 Genesis 4.6 Sedan.
Recently, the smart key, when pressed, will not lock or unlock the doors. I have to manually unlock the door with the key to get into the car.
When the door opens, the car is dinging.
I try to start the car, but an indicator message says to insert key into the smart key holder. (I cannot start car with key in my pocket) Once that is done, and the start button is pressed, the car starts. Everything is working fine: navigation, radio, and clock.
When I shut off the car, I remove the smart key and open the car door. The car is dinging and the indicator message says to remove key (which I already did and it is in my hand…). I notice a blue LED blinking near the smart key holder.
I think the dinging is happening because the car thinks the key is in the holder. Even when it is not. Because the car thinks the key is in the holder it will not remotely lock or unlock the car.
Can the key holder socket be cleaned, or repaired/replaced? Maybe one of the sensors could be dirty (?) Is replacement very expensive?
The battery in the smart key was replaced today. Unfortunately, I only have one smart key because I lost the other one. The smart key I do have is original, has seen better days, but has been working fine until recently.
Went to the dealership and they quoted me a 325.00 price for a new smart key (not including the key part which I have) That sounds really, really expensive.
Thanks in advance for your help!
