If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Smell of Gas in cabin

I have a same issue and the dealer can’t figure it out
I have been checking my fuel efficiency ever since I bought the car (I use the app drivvo) and there hasnt been any change since I started noticing the smell. If there was a leak, my efficiency would take a hit. I also used a scan tool to check my fuel trims (LT and ST) both values seem close to 0, within +/- 5%. If there was a leak car would be running lean. My nose may lie to me, but numbers dont lie.

Did you figure out the source of gas smell ?

Well maybe it wasn't gas after all, it could be the smell of oil/gas mixture from the catch can as the dealership said. The dealership checked all the lines and pumps and found no leaks. I've also been monitoring fuel efficiency and fuel trims and everything looks ok.

Just last week I smelled a VERY strong gas smell about a mile from my house, but it was when I got behind a vehicle from several decades back and with traffic I was stuck behind it for several blocks. I was able to get away from the vehicle and the smell went away, but not as quick as I thought it would, but maybe that was how long it took to get clean air to flow in. The smell was so strong it made me feel that it couldn't be coming from the vehicle in front of me unless I was seeing it flowing out somewhere, but it did go away and I haven't smelled it since. I'll keep my nose ready!

I had the same issue and I thought I posted about it a while back. It was the fuel rated hose I used for the catch can. Vapor went right thru it. Someone here said to change the hose to a different rating. I did and it fixed the smell. I have some here if anyone's interested. Gates Barricade. I had to buy a 25 ft roll. $40. I think I used eight feet. You can have it for the price per foot I paid plus shipping.

Hey Arcman, what size is it. I have a 1/2" hose for the outlet and 3/8" for the inlet. Also did the smell appear immediately or did it take a few months?

Any chance you could take a couple of pics with your phone to show starting point and ending point of the hose installed? The strength of the gas smell was very strong and makes me wonder why there was no explosion with hot engine parts nearby! But, like I said, the old car in front of me may have been the source of the smell because it went away when I got around and away from him.

12 years ago I had an Infiniti with faint gas smell in cabin and more smell in engine area. My mechanic said without more information or obvious issue it could take a while to track and success not guaranteed, plus $$$. I sold the car.

Had a similar situation, varied from faint to strong. Was not easy to diagnose but I finally stopped eating beans.

Sometimes we just have to look within to spot the problem 😂

5/16" ID. It took a few weeks for the smell to appear. When I removed the old hose, it reeked of fuel/oil.

I forgot about this until I just logged back in and saw comments. Leads me to believe it was the old crusty car in front of me. I only smelled it when it was in front of me that day and haven't smelled it since.

I have a 2013 Genesis and I get a strong fuel smell in the cabin when I drive above 9000 feet in altitude. Otherwise I don't have a smell.

I'm having this gas smell issue in my 2023 GV70. First time at the dealer they couldn't find anything, but I can smell it even hours after parked. Seems to be coming from upper right side of hood and when I turn on vents for heat. Already scheduled service again.

Hey there. I'm an old First Gen fuddy-duddy, but I saw your post's title and thought this might be somthing to consider.

My 2013 3.8 had just under 54K miles when I took the wheel. On a few mornings when conditions were just right — sometimes after a fill-up, but not always — I could get a faint whiff of petrol in the cabin. It was perplexing. The car had just had a thorough checkup and all the usual gassy suspects seemed to have solid alibis.

A search online suggested that one often overlooked item is the gas cap itself. The rubber gaskets in the cap can start to wear or dergrade after 50K miles. While one would think it's on the outside, the fumes have their way of sneaking in. The article suggested that checking the cap and replacing it if needed is the simplest, least expensive place to start in terms of a possible solution.

And in my case it did the trick! A new $15- buck cap has kept the cabin petrol-perfume free! (At least so far). The old cap did have pretty "old" looking gaskets compared to the new.

Not sure if that helps… but if it does, it is a nice, simple, easy on the wallet fix!

Cheers.
