  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi everyone! Just got my beautiful '15 Genny delivered and I think it was a smokers car. Does anyone have any ideas to get rid of that smell? I LOVE the car so far but it's kind of a bummer to get in and smell that. I appreciate any advice. Thanks!!

Yes, car dealers and high-end detailers have “ozone generators” that they put in the car and run overnight. Hotels also use these devices to clean the air. It may take more than once to improve the problem. I bought a dog car once (‘09) and the ozone treatment helped.

Obviously, you’ll also want to get your seats, carpets and all other surfaces cleaned, so a very good detail, or two, will be needed.

Do a You Tube search for lots of tips on this subject.

Good luck.

I highly recommend an ozone generator. You can get one from Amazon for not much $. The one I bought was Enerzen Commercial Ozone Generator for about $70.

Don’t forget to change the cabin air filter as well, as that will have some odor remnants

You can also put small bowls vinegar set in the floor overnight for a few days. In addition to vinegar I used loose balls of newspaper scattered around the interior along with the vinegar and within a week no more smoke smell. Have you already cleaned all interior surfaces?

I'm just going to have a full interior detail done on Monday. It's $200 but if I don't have to live with it ever again it's money well spent in my opinion.

I’d recommend getting two $100 detailings done instead of only one $200 one. In other words, see what the effect of the first one is. Last year I had a BMW dealer detail my car for $200. I was going to a big college reunion and wanted perfection. However, the result really wasn’t any better than detailings I’ve had for $100 and less.

I haven't used these, but it's Meguiar's and has mostly good reviews. It's an air freshener bomb, so you seal it in your car with the AC running on high for 15 minutes so it really soaks into all the surfaces including the ventilation system. Only $10, so what can it hurt to try? Unless it stinks worse! My Dad got a used Buick Riviera back in the late 90s (it was a comfy, reasonably quick boat with the supercharged V6) that was a smokers car. The dealer lit off one of these types of bombs in it that was bubble gum scented...did the trick and the car smelled like bubble gum for a like 3 months;)

And after the 3 months? Smoke smell again?
