  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Is their any advantage or disadvantage using a slightly narrower snow tire? I have heard conflicting answers to this question so I thought I would ask the experts. I currently run 235/50R-18 on my Genesis and have decided on Blizzaks for the snow. I am wondering if their is any merit going to 225/50R-18 for this tire.

I'm running the same Blizzaks. My guess is that the difference would be minor, and probably not worth the expense or hassle.

There is not much of a difference between those two sizes, 1.47% more or less in overall diameter, so the speedo would still be reasonably accurate.
If you went to 225-55-17 or 215-60-17 on separate winter wheels, you might have a slightly softer ride due to the higher sidewall height (which also might be an advantage in snow).
As far as a narrower tire goes, it might have a marginal advantage in deep snow, but you probably wouldn't notice the difference.
My personal preference would be the 17's on separate wheels for winter. Higher up front costs for sure, but if you keep your car 4 years or more it will be worth it in the long run.
