  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So jealous!!

I have a Jetta and it is too small for my family. The car seat takes up most of the back seat and as I approach 40 I want something nice to drive for the next six years.

I feel like an Elantra will be a lateral move or a step down to my 2010 Jetta SE.

I test drove a nice black 2009 Geneisis V8 with Tech. Loved the car but the payments came in a little high because of the neg equity. Also the availability of Certfied used Geneisis in my state is pretty non existent.

I think there is one. I thought that 27K for a 2009 Geneisis with 37K on it was too much. If I going to pay that kind of money I want less miles.

There are cheaper used ones around but they are not certified so I won't get the 10/100 so that is a deal breaker.

Most of the good deals are out of state but I would not even figure out how to purchse one remotely and get it registered in the state. Some say it could take a few weeks to get to drive it.

Now I am looking at a loaded Optima for 28-30K but still searching for a good deal on a hidden gem.

I did find a 2010 Genny V8 with tech but only had 6K miles on it and it is not certified and had 10 trips to the dealer. I sent them an email with questions about it but they have not gotten back to me.

Unless you have some significant savings set aside, you really shouldn't be looking at a luxury car. You have a small child and a wife in college (I think you said?). Time to be practical buy something modest that gets the job done. Then 6-7 years down the road if you have some money saved up, pay cash for a used luxury car.

You mention you have $100 extra every month. That is nothing. A few medical bills or some other type of extra expense could put you on the edge. Don't go there. Family first. Get the cheapest car you can and start saving like crazy.

And stop test-driving really nice cars because it will be waaay too hard to say no.

I was where you are a few years ago and someone woke me up and told me to stop borrowing money. I just paid cash for a used 2009 V8. Nicest car I've ever owned.

Very good advice.

When I was your age I never had time to be jealous. I was busting my ass to raise kids pay the bills and provide my kids with a decent place to live and good schools.

You have a wife who will be a tremendous asset when she starts her career.

Make wise decisions now and enjoy a better life style later.

There is a lot of good advice in the postings on this thread.

Like my Dad use to tell me “When I didn’t have any shoes I was jealous of people who did, until I saw a man without any feet.”
