  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

As I mentioned in one of my posts, the Nav didn't seem to work very well at all when speaking a destination. Is it in fact work well, or do you need to speak EXTRA clearly for it to understand?

I was saying: 49 Fulton Street, Auburn, Maine and I can't even remember what it came up with, but it wasn't even close.

It had the wrong address and the wrong state, and no, I don't talk like the "Mainers" they make fun of. I'm from upstate NY, and speak quite clearly, or so I've been told.

When I did my test drive on a different Genesis than the one I originally purchased, I had the same experience. I tried the same address 4 times and it messed it up completely. I then tried a different address one time and it also messed that up completely. With the Genesis I purchased (the V6 I test drove, the V8 I purchased to avoid confusion here) I tried it out and it handled my home address just fine when dictated by voice. I'll try some other locations like my work address today (which was the address I tried on my test run that didn't work) and let you know.

Worth noting, based on the prompts listed on the screen, it looks like you need only say the street address number, street name and then the City (not the state). I'm not sure, but I think when you first say "Find an address in (State)" it stays in that state until you tell it to look in another state. The owners manual indicates as well you don't say the state after you indicate the state you are looking for an initial address.

Hope that helps...and I'll keep you posted on my test today.

It does, and did, sort-of.

When it wasn't working well, the salesman said to just do the address … no better. He said once it got use to my voice it would work just fine. While that might be the case, at $48,950.00, I for one, would like it to work "Just fine" during the test drive.

As promised, I did my voice navigation test and I'm sorry but I don't think I have good news for you (or I) on this one. I tested my vehicle (as I did with my test vehicle) and it wasn't successful at correctly entering the 3 addressed I tired (multiple times). I ensured the my AC was totally shut down (to eliminate any possible noise interference. Perhaps a software update to the nav system will be in the future to help improve this matter.

:( That is to bad, as that is one of the (many) reason for liking and considering this car.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
That's understandable to those of us used to bossing around our cars with our voice. :-) Tell your service dealer (I will as well) so that they can report the issue to Hyundai. We could very well see some improvement. It may not come immediately, but if we are experiencing it and for those that value it, Hyundai could take a look to see that it would be an important part of their operating system to improve.

File a complaint directly with Hyundai as well as with your dealer. Seems like dealing with Hyundai directly gets things done quicker.

I did contact them and told them about the issue w/ the Nav Voice and was given a case number. I was told by the rep that it would be good for me to advise people on this site to call in if they also experience the same issue with voice not translating the address provided correctly to the Nav system. She mentioned that this will demonstrate the magnitude of the issue for Hyundai to assess and get a software update out. For your convenience, here is the contact info:

Isn't there a Siri voice link? Apple's Siri understands me perfectly if I speak slowly.

Yes, but when you use the navigation it uses the software in the navigation system. When I make calls it uses Siri via Bluetooth. I would imagine (as was the case in my BMW) that if I were to use an app like Google Maps that it would play through the system vs. using the navigation software.

Can someone try this to see if it works through the Goggle app noted above and give us some feedback?

Sure thing, will test it tomorrow evening when I pick-up the Genny for a car show this weekend and let you know.

I tested both Google Maps and Apple's Maps on iPhone.

Google Maps - When I started the app for the destination no voice guidance was provided through the car or through my phone. I then shut down my Bluetooth to disconnect from the car and the voice through my phone worked.

Apple Maps - I turned by Bluetooth back on to connect to the car and through Siri asked for directions to a location. She spoke to me through the car system for verifying the address to input, etc, but as soon as the guidance was to start, there was no voice instruction through Siri through the car. That came as a surprise to me because the car is so integrated with Siri that I thought the voice directions would also be provided with Siri and the Apple Maps.

In short, it appears from what I experienced that the only way to get voice directions through the car system is through the installed navigation system. Being that my experience with the voice dictation to input the address does not work well, that then will require to manually input the address into the navigation system.

Not the best news, I know...but I hope it helps. I'm glad you asked to have this done as I didn't always use the maps in my former car's navigation system because they were not done by Google which I much prefer...now I know if I want to use Google Maps that I will have to use my phone voice rather than the car voice system.

May be a good fix request (at least to be able to get directions through Siri since it's highly integrated). I provided fix/recommendations contact info to Hyundai on another thread in this forum.

Thanks for the feedback. I don't own on yet but when I do I will be sure to file a complaint with them.

These problems should lessen when CarPlay is available in the Genesis later in the year. Yet another reason to let the price simmer down and also gain what will likely be a huge improvement in the car/phone interface.

Hadn't heard the Genesis was one of the vehicles getting CarPlay? If so, think that will be available as a software upgrade to those who have already purchased without CarPlay? Curious...

It was announced at the NY car show - shown on the 2015 Sonata and reported to be made available later in year on Genesis. No report of upgradeability.

My guess is the Genny wont see it till MY2016, there is no mention of it in the existing owners manual. It would be nice though if your an Apple user, here it is being demonstrated on the new Sonata:

Great... Carplay is on a $18,000 Sonata, but not on a $55,000 Luxury Genesis.. Thats a smart move Hyundai.

It's not like they did not want to put it on the Genesis, car play is something entirely new to Hyundai which was just recently announced and was not there before production of the 2015. The Sonata is still not released and will have it. I honestly thing in the next refresh the genesis will get it just like the previous Gen got bluelink.
