  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So why do I need Bluelink?

Simply turn off the switch on the mirror and walla.. No lights :D

Thanks, but there is no violà switch to shut off the three Bluelink rearview mirror lights in my Santa Fe Sport.

There may not be any on a Chevy Cruze or an Aston Martin DB6 either, but wasn't this about a Genesis?

This is about Hyundai's Bluelink. Note the thread title.

...which is located in a "General 2015 Hyundai Genesis Sedan Discussion" thread

BlueLink's features and quirks on other Hyundai's notwithstanding, aren't issues posted here assumed to be about a 2015 Genesis? The fact the Santa Fe does not have the same features or capability as their $50K+ sedan model is not that hard to understand.

The Genesis does not have this "feature" either - but's the lighted buttons on the mirror are a rather silly thing to be fixated on as being an issue anyhow.

I thought AlwaysForward stated they were above - was he wrong?

The Bluelink buttons are at eye level and are annoying at night. Certainly there could be a better place to locate them in the cockpit. For example, the hazard light flasher button is located on the dash, not in your line of sight. Same thing with plenty of other important buttons. Lots of folks have eyesight issues. Consider yourself lucky if you do not...yet. If it's okay with you, this forum is about the discussion of many topics, even ones that may not interest, or even bore you. That does not make such issues silly.

Do your Bluelink button lights turn off as FORWARD stated? Mine do not.

I will check next time in the car. I tool AF at his word - he is usually pretty accurate.

I could be wrong as I thought I remember reading something in the manual about it. I will check on the way home. I have never tried to turn it off as it does not bother me plus I use the Google Search function quite frequently.

Update:
I just checked the manual and it is not very clear. It talks about turning off the Auto Dimming function by pressing and holding the on/off button (the button in the center of all the buttons) for 3 seconds. This turns off the Auto Dimming function. Press and hold it for 3 more seconds turns the Auto Dimming function back on. Default is "On" once the car is cycled off and back on again.

What the manual doesn't talk about is the what happens when you simply press the on/off button without holding it in for 3 seconds. I think this shuts off all items on the mirror but like I said above, I could be wrong. Will give it a shot on the way home tonight and report back.

It shuts off the compass - nothing else!

I guess I'm getting older and not as tech savvy as I used to be, but can someone give me one or two sentences on why I need Bluelink?

The dealer blew through the installation when I took delivery but never explained what exactly it is or it does. I forgot the password, so tried to reset it but the Hyundai website keeps saying my link to reset it is expired even when I go in right after I get the reset email (supposed to be good for 24 hours BTW). I can keep trying but would like to know if it is worth it before I go through a lot of hoops.

Is it just remote start and locking? If so I'll skip it, no need in CA.

I really like the BlueLink feature. I start my car at my desk at work and walk out to a nice cool car. I had a Pathfinder with Remote Start but it was too far away to start it. The app removes that limitation. I am sold on Bluelink just for that purpose.

Agree - for the times I want to remote start my car, it's too far away for a fob to start it AND even if the fob had longer range, I'd have no idea if it actually started or not! The app lets me know the car started.

I don't get the benefit of using a fob to start the car when I need to pretty much be close enough to see the car, when the app allows me to start it from up to 10 minutes away/in advance - so it's heated or cooled by the time I get to it. If I were to wait until I was walking to it and could see it (asost fob starters require:have range for), I might as well wait until I get to it to start it.

To each his own, but I don't get the issues with using the more capable/flexible app. That said - if it's the cost of the plan that's the real issue, then OK - I suppose Hyundai could have given a fob start option for those folks.

I too love getting into a cool car after work. Awesome feature. Another side benefit is a discount on the car insurance.
