  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi all, picked-up the new status symbol last Wednesday and have been joy riding around. I've had people asking about the car in shops, and other drivers giving way to what looks like them wanting to have a better look. :)
The car is just great. It's a 3.8L RWD sedan. Here in the UK there is just one model/ variant and they've thrown every gizmo into the package. I now have some questions I cannot find answers to in the books.

1) On my old Garmin sat nav there is an icon you can set to Home location, and it set the car's location, so dead easy to set a route when driving back home. I cannot find anything like this on the Genesis. All I can find is to set Home in the address book and pick the address. Is this as 'quick' as it gets in setting home as the destination?
2) I see dimming icons actually etched on the external rear view mirrors glass. There are also icons that illuminate when traffic is in the blind spot. All very cool. When does the dimming icon illuminate? Is there a way to turn this on or do they auto illuminate when dimming is happening?
3) On some of the multimedia unit screens there is a small grey rectangle in the top left portion with 'R' written on it. What does this mean?
4) One of the multimedia buttons is marked with a gear and opens the setup mode screen on the centre LCD unit. This has a scroll bar showing, such that you can scroll down to see more icons on the screen. How do you scroll on this device?
5) Where can you find firmware updates? At least be able to check if the multimedia unit has the latest installed. Is there a name for this system/ software that I can Google?
6) Is it possible to add POI files? We have speed cameras here and I can buy a POI file to show where they are.
7) When the engine is running the DRL are illuminated, but is this only on the front?

Many thanks for any help.

7) In the USA, DRL's (daytime running lights) are only in the front, so I assume same for the UK version.

Hi, are you the only expert here? :)

I really would like to find out how to scroll the central LCD unit.

BTW, in the information pack supplied with my beautiful new car is a card recommending which engine oil to use. (ref to another thread)

And the oils are,

Shell Helix Ultra 5W-40
and
Shell Helix Ultra Professional AG 5W-30.

Setting up home as an address book entry will allow you to say to the car "Go home" and also the ability to set home as a destination with its own button.

A word of advice or caution. Do not enter an exact address and lead people right to your door, instead, you might consider a nearby landmark such as a church or town hall or similar.

I agree with that, especially if you car has a garage door opener in it (or uses the one in the rear-view mirror).

Thanks, I'm getting the hang of things reading through the manual. You say 'with it's own button'. Where would the button be displayed?

As far as the mirrors are concerned they are full time auto dimming. The icon is just there to let you know the mirror has that capability but it does not illuminate. And congrats on your Genesis in the UK! Enjoy

Thanks.
I found out how to scroll a screen. You just flick up with your finger as best between icons as possible. Seems to work.
