If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Looking to find a source of a quality 3rd oil filter for the 3.3 liter engine in Canada.

The cost of a genuine Genesis oil filter from the dealer is over $39 (Canadian dollars, taxes included) which is a tad on the high side.

I’m well aware that oil changes are included with the service of the car.

Are you instead doing your own changes by choice? Maybe they will give you a filter under the maintenance program if you ask.

I’m doing my own oil changes 1/2 way in between the complimentary oil changes. I’ve done this for every car that has maintenance included with the car warranty. I appreciate that some people feel that this is unnecessary.

Haven't looked for the 3.3, but I was able to buy a lot of 10 real OEM filters for the 5.0 on ebay for $56, so $5.60 per filter. Sometimes you find good deals on bulk lots there.

WIX WL10237 should fit. I trust this brand of filter.

You can get them on Amazon, Rockauto, etc. relatively cheap.

NAPA auto parts carries the the Napa Gold part # 100237. I think it was about $8/filter. They didn't have it in stock but had it in their store next day so I went ahead and ordered 6. In other words, call ahead and ask.

Also, online:

As mentioned above, WIX (P/N: Wl10237) is the correct filter to use. In my opinion, the WIX filter is superior to the OEM filter. I believe it is also made in Korea.

Rockauto is the cheapest I've found so far. Looks like $4.71 USD a piece as of today.

^ i'm doing the same. i get my OE filters from Openroad on Boundary. i recall ~$13/filter, maybe a buck or two more or less. i can live with that.

on other vehicles i've always gone with WIX filter which are excellent. the G70 WIX filter is Korea-made i believe.

I'm trying to understand how an oil filter can be about $13 at Openroad Bounday and $35 (before tax) at Openroad Richmond? Were the ones you bought in the black Genesis box?

^ no, hyundai box. blue filter iirc. i think made by MANN or something. i don't understand the separate Genesis part/part number...aside from gouging Genesis owners. i doubt there is a material difference for the 2.0T and 3.3T filters between hyundai/kia/genesis, although that would be interesting to know.

all i know is i went in, asked for 2 filters for my G70, and it came to less than $30. part numbers matched what i had looked up online beforehand so i left satisfied, more or less.

That Gensis branded box looks expensive.... lol. I'm guessing this is what Mercedes, BMW, Audi do as standard practice (upcharge for common items). It's just more noticeable when you buy a "Genesis" part or branded part from a Hyundai service counter.

^ i recall always receiving 'nissan' branded parts from the Infiniti parts counter. this was at a separate Infiniti dealer as well, no nissan/Infiniti combo dealer. this led me to walk down the block and buy parts from the nissan dealer after a while. sure enough, the prices were typically cheaper at nissan. same everything, different price. gotta pay for that fancy Infiniti coffee and cookies somehow.

I love RockAuto and PartsGeek, but you need to see what the total cost is going to be from either of them compared to other vendors like Amazon. Wix is one of the best filter companies out there. Amazon Basics full synthetic oil is a very good oil for the price. Unless you find a super deal like I did on 6 qts of Mobil1 full synthetic for $28 you're going to be hard pressed to find a better oil for cheaper.

Also something to note, you may want to start keeping an eye on the new GF-6A and GF-6B oils that will be coming out which have 8 new specs that are required. This may or may not cause an increase in the price of oil. I don't know if all other oils will be discontinued after it comes out or if it will just be a better, more pricey option. Just food for thought.

There's a definite difference between the quality of the 3.3T OEM filter and the Wix filter (sold by Napa Auto). The Wix filter element is considerably tighter and the ends are plastic rather than cardboard.

This was from my oil change this morning.

I like the way, with no research other than a visual inspection, some folks find one product better than another. Plastic ends vs composite do not make for a better filter. The Manufacturer of the engine puts specs out there for micron of filtration, pressure relief valve, mounting compression, size and seal type not counting construction. Just amazing how keyboard mechanics can make these purchase suggestions. Those of you that choose to change oil more often than suggested, definitely does not hurt anything, but unless you intend to drive the same car 100 to a 150K + you are just wasting money, but it's your money so proceed as you wish. I assume you folks also change the air filters at least as often as the oil? Most of the oil contaminates come from the air forced into the motor. The oil filter just helps contain some of this airborne stuff along with VERY minor wear particles and combustion waste that attaches itself to the cylinder walls.

I'm not sure why you feel the need to attack, but your post is unwarranted. First, I didn't specifically say better. I just said difference in quality. And, there IS a difference in quality. Second, I didn't suggest anything. I was reporting what I had and used today and showing the difference to those people who had asked about aftermarket filters. I hope your day gets better.

Bust out the popcorn, now that Im at a PC ill bite:

is your goal to go into every thread you can and be as wrong as possible while coming off as a total tool? if so; bravo! youve nailed it. You would think you would learn your lesson when the last thread you wrote a rant on was proven to be completely wrong. Now here you are again, attacking someone who is just trying to add information to our G70 community and again....completely wrong about the content of the post. So please do us all a favor: either calm down and start being more polite in your responses, or go back to yelling at the clouds on facebook where they will take your shit because its not going to fly here
