Speakers 17 vs 14?

Aloha forum,

I searched for a bit on this forum but I couldn’t find a clear answer to this. I’m pretty much settled on buying an ultimate with the 17th speaker system. However, I’ve never heard anyone breakdown the difference between the 14 and 17 speaker systems. Is it just a matter of speakers or is the head unit and sound quality better? I’m just trying to wrap my head around what is gained and or lost between the two systems.

It is a different head unit. Aside from three speakers I don't know the specs. The sound is allegedly better but I never spend any time comparing. Others here have I'm sure.

More important. The Ultimate has a 9.2" screen versus and 8". The Ultimate uses a different hardware setup and cannot be upgraded to have Apple CarPlay or Android Auto if that is important to you. I'd rather have the other goodies to do come with the Ultimate like the HUD, power trunk, etc.

I've had trouble finding relevant past discussions using the forum search tools as well. Surprisingly, a google search often does a goo job of finding what I'm looking for with links to this very discussion form. I did see this in a previous Google search however the information is 10 years old. I was trying to find relevant information to this generation Genesis. Still stuck finding that information at the moment;(

This is a very detailed article. Thank you for passing it along. I didn’t know that the ultimate operating system was based on a international standard. I guess we have to hope that this standard catches on so that we might be able to utilize our phones more on that model.

Unfortunately for us "Ultimate" people, Android seems to be more of the standard now... The OS for that was based on an ancient (even for then) smartphone architecture!

One tiny question, have you ever tried to play FLAC or ALAC using a decent source, on the ultimate?
Yes the lack of the phone integration is infuriating, but IMHO, the 12 channel digital amplifier is not all that bad...

The 17 speaker system's sound seems to vary greatly depending on source. To my ear, it all sounds a little muddy if the Surround Sound is switched off.
