  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Although this problem has been discussed thoroughly here, I'm wodering what lessees like myself can do about exceeding the mileage limitations. I have a 4 year 102,000km lease. With the 5% error, that means that I will reach my limit at approx 97,000 ACTUAL miles. What recourse do we have ? Anyone chased it up ?

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Your only real option is to drive a bit less or try and form a class-action lawsuit. Honda had this same issue with certain models and because of a class action lawsuit they agreed to extend the mileage allowance on my all effected cars by 3%.

FWIW, I'm glad the speedo is a bit off because it helps keep me from getting tickets. ;) At 65mph indicated, my GPS says that I'm only going 62mph.

Put bigger tires on the car. The bigger they are the greater the % increase.

I'm thinking smaller tires...to correct it.

But tires w/ a smaller sidewall would ride worse and would look ugly due to the increase in wheel gap.

If you just take the time to more carefully plan your road trips you should be able to make up the difference in miles easily. Plus you'll save on gas. :)

Funny you should bring this up. The other day I took a really long drive and set the cruise at 80MPH. I did a "avg speed" reading and it said I was going 77MPH. I couldn't believe it.

So is every Genesis like this? Or only some?

I'm pretty sure that it's every single one. BMW has done this for years as well FWIW.

I notice this with mine as well. I thoought i was jsut crazy , but appearently not.

My speedo is off as well, however, are we sure the odometer is off as well?? Its probably all calculated by the computer anyway. My 06 Avalon's speedo was dead on, however the odometer actually was a few percent off (10 miles = 9.7 on the odo). It was all Avalons too, as we talked about it over in the Edmund's forums.

I was just thinking about this the other day, i think my odometer is off. It seems like i'm doing way more miles than should be. I thought it was just me but i see it's not, what has Hyundai said about this (probably nothing), as a lessee this is especially troubling for me since it will affect me when i return the car.

Even if the odometer is off by 5% the difference in miles will be VERY small (not enough for most people to notice). Have you tried matching up the miles on your odo to drive to/from work with mapquest/google maps? That would be one way of seeing how "off" you odometer is.

I don't agree the result will be small. It's 5000Km on a 100,000Km lease !!

On the NJ turnpike last night I took a small sample with the mile markers (only 5 miles) and from the time I reset the trip odo each mile was dead on. I know that was quite possibly too small a sample, however, it seems accurate. I won't be on a longer highway trip for a while (work is only 12 miles) so maybe someone who has a 20+ mile commute could do a little test with the mile markers for us.
