Spending some quality time w/ my new Genesis tomorrow

Hello everyone,

Just bought my first foreign car ever this past Monday. A 2012 Platinum Metallic/black 3.8 w/ the premium package. In the past I've owned Vettes, Camaros, Mustangs, & a couple trucks, but I am stoked about my first luxury sedan! I have been extremely pleased with it so far and am looking forward to doing a little massaging on her tomorrow (wash & wax).

My question is - how is the Hyundai paint on these cars (fading-clear coat issues) and also, does anyone have a particular wax they prefer?

I have a '12 that's white in color. I was amazed how nice the paint is on this car. As far as wax- I use Zaino. One nice tip- buy and use a clay bar before you wax.

Thanks for the tip.... I was affraid I may hear that. That clay bar works amazingly good! But boy do my arms feel it after an afternoon of doing that & waxing!! Oh well..... gotta do what you gotta do.

Make sure to fully clay down the car and rinse it well.

For my wash I use: Zymol's Z530 Auto Bath which can be found at your local auto parts store, I bought mine off Amazon for $4 cheaper then local prices and got free shipping/no tax.

For washing the car by hand I follow this nice guide:

I use the Grit Guard they sell in my bucket to help keep the contaminates in the wash to a minimum.




I prefer Meguiar's Ultimate Liquid Wax, it doesn't leave any residue on the trim/plastic. Also their Ultimate Quick Detailer once a month is a nice way to help keep the shine in top shape. Everyone is going to have a product they prefer to use, this is what I like after trying many others.

My only advice is that if you are going to be spending some quality time with Genny, then be sure to use protection.

Yes, don't be poking any appendages into the rear bumper exhaust port area. Sharp edges there.

the clearcoat and paint seem to be very good on these cars. my black 2010 gen sits in my driveway baking in the hot florida sun every single day (unfortunately no room for it in the garage ). it still has that deep black shine after just washing it. I wash it once a week with black magic and wax once a month with meguiars or mothers.

Thanks for the all the help guys! I got it all done today, only took 4hrs... I kinda have an OCD thing going so I take my time. I forgot all about Zaino products so I will definitely be ordering some more for next time! This time I just used Mothers clay bar & spray and then Meguiar's #26 Hi-tech liquid wax. I think it came out pretty darn good (may be a little bias).

Meguiar's #26 Hi-tech is a blend of carnuba wax and synthetic polymers. I believe that Zaino is pure synthetic polymer (like Meguiar's NXT 2 or Meguiar's Ultimate). If you want to switch to Zaino, you might want to try and strip off the Meguiar's #26 Hi-tech, since I am not sure of the impact of applying a pure polymer on top of carnuba (or carnuba/polymer blend).

If you don't mind waxing every 3-6 months, you might just want to stay with the Meguiar's #26 Hi-tech, especially if you don't want to go to the trouble of stripping off the existing wax if you switch to pure synthetic polymer.
