Spider web cure?

I have a 2018 Black G80 and take decent care of my paint. I use a local detail place to Clay bar and polish about once a year and wax every 3 months. this is just how my routine has unfolded. My question is my paint is still very nice but im noticing some spider webbing in my paint. I am guilty of going through a drive through car wash a few times. what do i need to do to correct this problem? Is it correctable?

Don’t do automatic car washes for the brushes are pretty much guaranteed to leave small scratches. Black is a nice color but keeping swirl marks and tiny scratches out takes some work. Look for some swirl remover polish, or a fine cut cleaner. Mequires makes both types I believe and they are designed for very minor scratches and swirl marks and will not remove much clear coat. A regular polish or one not labeled for very minor defects will be more aggressive and remove more clear coat which you don’t want. An orbital polisher with a micro cloth cover will make correcting what your seeing pretty easy. Afterwards apply a good carnuba or similar wax using a new clean micro fiber cloth and you should be good. I’d get a spray wax or spray detailer and apply that after each wash as well to get best longevity from your primary wax. Both are easy and quick to use. Good luck.

If you (like myself) are terrified of damaging your finish but yet are somewhat anal about scratches (like myself), every couple of years you could have a professional detailer perform a paint-correction (which is what pulsar is talking about above without mentioning it by name). It can get pricey though (because of the labor) for having a professional do it (starts at 500 and goes up from there, depending on how many steps are required), but it looks stunning when done properly.

Youtube is your friend if new to detailing.

I like Meguiars products but there are better ones out there but they are very user friendly starting out. Stick with foam pads starting out until you learn a bit more technique to CUT the clear coat with a wool pad or microfiber. I like Lake Country pads, its what I started with and I put my son on to start.

Swirl Remover (little cut), Sealer - let sit at least 12 hours if you can, Wax.
Tape off a 2x2 area, start there with a good tool and pad (porter cable, Griots, or a DA/Orbital if you have the extra $$ to spend)
Work the area, use a flashlight to see your progress. You won't get them all out the first time but you will get better.

Avoid the cheap car washes as others have said. That's where most of your scratches are coming from. My G80 is almost two years old. Good luck and post up some pics after your first detail job.

I had the same issues with my paint, before deciding to apply a ceramic coating to it. I spent about 16 hours buffing and polishing the paint. Doing both took all but the worst of swirls and webbing out. It was probably the most work I have ever done on a car of mine, but after putting a ceramic coat on, it cleans super easy and fast and was worth the investment of time.
