  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

New to the forum and to the world of Genesis.

Just bought a 2013 R Spec. While reading up on it came across this Website. Thank You to all, made the decision to buy easier.

Came across a performance chip upgrade on eBay, one of many. Just wondered if anyone had heard of/reviewed them before.

SpitFire Tuning. 100% feedback on eBay, but they also do Nintendo stuff. Positive reviews on chips in past. SpitFire only appears on a Web Search as a dyno tuning company in India. The chip itself is reviewed SpitFire Tuning Performance Chip - Real Performance Chip Reviews

Ordered the chip. Just wanted any feedback before try it. Plugs into OBD2 and does not overwrite factory according to info.

Thanks Again.

Might want to put the flame suit on.
IMHO you just threw your money down the drain.
I've never heard of an ODBII plug in that provides any kind of performance for our cars.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I'd cancel the order if you can, you're going to be highly disappointed otherwise

If you get the chip, please by all means let us know the results once you have it installed and run tests. Anything to help our poor cars get ANY improvement would be a plus. Not much else out there for the 5.0. Maybe you might be able to get fully return of $$ if unsatisfied. Think it might be worth the try, win or lose. The only thing that will so far greatly improve performance is NOS, but no takers.

Chip is being shipped. Willing to TOFTT. Will update if there is any change detected. I figured that with the engine being out there so many years that somebody might have created a better ECU map. Tons of fake chips on eBay, this one stood out as a little different from the usual snake oil.
Positive thing is they said they needed to know which engine so they could install the correct program. I'll update later.

Great!! All of us that like to run the 5.0 will be waiting for your results, good or bad.

Great!!! You'll be one of the few that share their results. I know you recently got your 5.0, but don't worry about hurting it with hard launches, mid range down shifts, etc. Believe me, the engine and drive train are very robust. Recommend high grade synthetic 5-20 engine oil, of course. Dealers regularly use blended 5-20 when you take it in for changes. I provide my own oil and let them use their OEM filter in order to prevent any warranty issues. They charge me the lowest coupon price for this,(usually 5 qt coupon) & I provide 7 qts synthetic. . Still a deal since I use their 5 qts oil in my lawn mower and older GM.

I'll report anything positive or negative. I have owned musclecars for 30 years so I am not afraid to press the pedal on the right. Thanks for the oil info. Already getting the differential, tranny and engine fluids changed to give it a fresh start. Synthetic is a must for GDI engines from my research.
With all the lockdown measures it is tougher to get full use of the car, and the recent snows. I'll make sure I have a good idea of the car pre-chip before I install it though.

Pick two: Performance, Emissions, Fuel-efficiency.

Most "tunes" (whether cheapo chips like this or full thousand dollar plus ECU/TCU re-writes by folks with HPTuners, et. al.) often sacrifice both emissions & fuel efficiency to get their gains. The latter two probably do not matter to you, but modern GDI cars can be tricky to tune well without triggering other issues.

RSpectnewbie are you going to do before/after dynos?

No access to a dyno. The more I drive the car the less I feel the need for upgrades though. Think the performance upgrade bug was because the weather is not allowing me to get my 1969 Camaro out from winter hibernation.
If I do install it I will let people know good or bad, seems like it would most likely be bad.
Most likely not going to install it due to concerns about the possibility of a bad ecu map. The car has plenty of punch for my needs. If I do need to do tire ripping, I have a car for that already.
Thanks to everyone for their input. Should have posted before ordering, or read more.....

Haha great choice of weekend car! (y)

Mine's a few years newer but suits the itch to mash the loud pedal just as well

WELCOME! let us know how this works out.

I think you are over thinking that you will have an ECU problem if you try the OBD module chip. A few years ago my 5.0 was a test bed for LAP and had different ECUs in and out also I tried a OBD chip with no ECU problems. Problem was dyno only had a 15 RWHP increase @ at very top end with a cost of over $1200. LAP & I agreed not worth the cost. No problems with driveability or fuel use however. I think the OBD chip will just allow the ECU to go to its furthest mapping with 93 fuel. The ECU already learns your driving technique and slightly adjusts. If I exercise it hard before an evening out, even the cut off goes from 6500 to 6700 rpm and shifts are slightly harder.

The more I look into tuning and the 5.0's ECU it seems nobody has cracked the ECU yet. Can't modify the ECU map without knowing the factory ECU settings. Am I missing something?

BTR had a tune it works great gains you like 30 + hp depending on mods but unfortunately it has been discontinue due to lack of demand , fortunately for me i was able to get mine before they ended production. ive seen some on the FS section every so often but it will be tuned to the previous owners mods.

Seen the one in the FS section for $900. BTR's ECU/TCU. For 30 HP I'll just be happy with what I have. Especially since BTR no longer makes/supports them....
Rather put the money into the Camaro instead.

As I have decided to keep my car stock, I have not decided to stop looking for a proper tune in case I break my decision. Came across a tuner that I have not seen before. Have only seen the pages on the web, have not contacted them but it looks promising. ECU/TCU Unit....

Just thought I'd put the info out there for anyone looking.
*SOB* They're even near me....

Thats actually the same tune I didn't know they had a listing, I reached out to them but never got a response back .

I've sent an email to get more info. See what happens. With covid-19 right now it may take a while.
