  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Ok, I admit I don’t use sport mode much given all the traffic I have to regularly deal with. I do enjoy the boost in performance and acceleration it provides. But I’ve noticed it is very slow to shift up and will rev up to 2500 - 2700 before doing so. I know this is as designed. However, in town it won’t shift above 6th gear. It will only shift into 7th at 70, when it gets to about 2700. I ran it up to 80 on a short section of highway the other day to see if it would go into 8th to no avail. I can manually shift it of course. Genesis says this is all normal.

Anybody else noticed this?

Lots of views, but no input. Seriously? You guys never driven in sport mode on the highway?

Sounds about right if you want to be Sporty. At 75, if you need to get around a truck and want the responsiveness, you need the RPM to be a Sporty guy. . If you were to look at the torque and power curves you'd see how it fits in. If you went to ECO mode the rpm would drop, but so would your reputation.

3.5 TT here. I live in on the edge of the Sierras, so a mixture of flatish and very steep driving. In town and on the flats I am generally in comfort or eco mode. Acceleration does not seem to be negatively affected. When I do the mountains with switchbacks, etc., I do switch it to sport mode for better handling. But then I almost always use the paddle shifters both uphill and down so that I get to dictate the boost, etc. I almost always prefer my own shift points to those on most cars (same with my Subaru turbos). I feel more in control and frankly its more fun (not as much as a true manual shifter, but a decent compromise). So to answer you question, no, I have never tried sports mode on flat highways--I either put it in comfort and let it do its thing, or take over completely the shifting which I can do more to my liking. Do you use your paddle shifters?

Sounds about right?
While I certainly appreciate your input, I’m looking for some firsthand experience. What does your car do in sport mode at 75 miles an hour? does it stay in seventh gear or will it shift the eighth gear? That’s my question!

Thx NVQ. Good question…should I HAVE to use the paddle shifter to get it into 7/8 gear in sport mode?! I think not!

Sorry, was not clear. Raining this week but I will try soonih and report back.
Just curious, can you manually make it go to 8th under those conditions?

No apologies…I was responding to Ed. Yes the paddle shifters work well. But, why does sport mode require manual input AT ALL?

Is it my car??

I think I've experienced my G70 in Sport Mode cruising at 70 mph running at higher RPMs than if I'm in Comfort Mode, so presumably it's not in 8th gear. If I activate cruise control the car immediately upshifts and the RPMs decline.

It does not, but its available (and as I mentioned, I find it superior to all-auto).
I suspect it is designed to operate that way for the reason that if it stays in 7th it still has some reserve oompf left that shifting to 8th would take away at those high speeds.
I assume that you find the tauter suspension is still there at all speeds and gears of sport mode ?

Exactly. Going through town in Sport mode on a previous car, it would stay in a lower gear at 40 mph. Rarely used it for that reason. You use sport mode for performance, so, it keeps the rpm up and ready to perform. Same premise at higher speeds. You want response, you need the power and higher rpm.

Yes, and why I enjoy using it so much! Just wish I lived somewhere less crowded. That has moved up our bucket list.

Thx for all the input!

enjoyed it! Just out of curiousity, what would you estimate your mpg hit to be when you stay in sport mode at highway speed?
FYI--I have the heavier, thirstier GV80/3.5. So not a direct comparison, but in 60%exurb-20%highway-20%mountain driving I average 21 overall (better than most due to largely staying in quite satisfactory for me comfort/eco modes 80% of the time but without "extreme mileaging" it at all) and regularly hit 25/26 on highway in comfort mode, and all of that is at over 4000' elevation on 89 octane top tier Costco gas. If I know I will be doing more of the mountain driving or on longer trips I will put in 91 or 93 if I can find it. I also add a quart of Techron every 6 months just for kicks.

Not sure as I haven’t really used sport mode on the highway other than the short blast I did to see how it shifted. Doing a trip soon and will do more experimenting.

I have almost 5900 miles now and the average is 24. That’s about 80/20 city highway. I did two trips over the summer and was seeing 30 on both, which I’m happy with given it’s AWD.

Overall love the car!
