  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Sports-Sedan Rivals: Alfa Giulia vs. BMW 3-series vs. Genesis G70 vs. Volvo S60

It would be interesting to see a comparison over time that factored cost of ownership and reliability. I don't doubt that the results are fair from a purely driving dynamics point of view. However, automotive writers don't have to keep the cars for 5 or more years. If cost of ownership was not a factor, I would have picked the Giulia, like all Alfas... best car to drive, worst car to own.

Had a Giulia before the G70. It felt more special and was more beautiful inside in the Lusso package but owning it suuuuuuuuuuucked.

Did you have the QV? What sucked about it?

I loved the Giulia during my test drive. Not enough power for me in Ti form, and the Quadrifoglio is above my price range. When they come out with a refresh I'll definitely be paying attention.

^ i noticed my local Alfa dealer has new '18, '19 and '20 models on their lot, in addition to used '17's. let's just say the discounts off MSRP are substantial. i believe up to 40% off in the listing ads alone, before negotiation. i can't imagine being a salesperson with that inventory to deal with.

I think owning the G70 sucks due to the horrible dealership experience and lack of competent maintenance folks. Car is great though.

This is typical, the G70 won many other comparisons against the BMW, but seems like reviewers try hard to put the BMW on top.

I shopped the BMW and I thought it felt cheap and boring.

^ i think the only dealer experience that was worse than BMW for me (more than one) was Alfa (only tried one). amazing level of d-bagness on both counts, but for me Alfa takes the 'worst of' award due to their poor organization and parts support.

At that point, it's almost worth it to just buy it as a project car!

^ yeah, my friend just bought a new/demo '18 Alfa 4C for $45k off MSRP - damn near 50% off. he said he couldn't pass it up for that price. used and older ones were going for more.

I was considering a used QV but was worried about the reliability. Never even bothered to go look or test drive.

I didn't look it up, but I wonder what a used '18 may go for. This issue should always be considered if buying a car. When one sells it, there will be a difference just due to model year. True, the longer one keeps it, the yearly differences will diminish, but it's a factor to consider. I'm not saying that one won't still save some money, but it may not be as large as one might think.

I'm just finishing a 2-year lease on a 2017 Giulia Lusso AWD. It has been a truly wonderful car. It is so fun to drive and it responds like it is directly connected to your brain. I was trying to get a 2020 Giulia because they upgraded the interior and tech, but they are just arriving in the US and there are really no deals to be had on one. I could have gotten a 2019 Giulia for about the same or a bit less than the G70 3.3T Sport RWD but the Genesis was a much better value overall and there are so many good and well thought out touches in the Genesis. The 360° camera is a great example. And it's not hard to notice the power difference between the Giulia's 280hp and the G70's 365hp - although the Giulia isn't that much slower because it is lighter and more nimble. The driving experience in the Giulia is best described with two words: seductive and intoxicating. The Italians have figured out how to infuse sex into a car and it is the Giulia on this wonderful Giorgio platform. If you can believe it, the Giulia's trunk is 3-4 cu. ft. bigger and I think there is more rear seat leg room than the G70. I hope they make a 360hp version of this car and throw some more tech into it - I don't think I could resist that car. Mine was in the drop-dead gorgeous Montecarlo Blue.

Lots of people complain about the Giulia's reliability but mine was excellent. (I think the QV 505hp version has more reliability problems. But that Ferrari engine... wow) Over the course of two years, I needed a stop/start sensor replaced and the sunroof mechanism had to be replaced, all under warranty. That's all I needed in 2 years. My dealer's service department was very good and I don't think that is the norm for Alfa.

As much as I love the Giulia, I am really enjoying my Adriatic Blue G70 3.3T Sport. I've had it for about three weeks and continue to discover more and more about it and I like it more every day. And I keep learning more about it every day. There are so many niceties like being able to adjust how much the seat moves back (the Giulia's moved back more but wasn't adjustable), the drop-down feature of the side mirrors when in reverse, the ease of using recording/replay in the SiriusXM radio, the very good lane-keep assist, and the drive settings.

There are little things I'm surprised at that aren't in the G70. You can't adjust the amount of time the headlights stay on after to exit the car - I'd like 60 seconds instead of 15. No rear fog light (I know most Americans don't know how to use this but I do!) No heated steering wheel on the RWD - that one is so weird! The cruise control doesn't stay on - I have to turn it on every time I drive. (I use it a lot to avoid tickets. The Giulia remembered the setting.) But these are nit-picks.

The G70 does have so many great qualities. The sunroof is so well designed I can have it open at highway speeds - this is a big win for me. The heads up display is great although I wish it showed what gear I was in and the tach. Still, I have a HUD - it's awesome! I'm loving this car!

If you have any Giulia questions, feel free to ask!

Rick
