  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Every time we back out of our garage the brakes makes a horrible noise. Is there a fix? I am 79 years old and never had a car do this.

Talk to the dealer. They can make some minor adjustments, there is a paste that goes on the back of the pads and they can remove sharp edges from the pads. This should fix it. A few hard stops from highway speed to bed the pads in may fix it as well.

Thanks for this reply. I will talk to the dealer again. They said it was normal but I do not think that is correct.

Some cars have brakes that squeal more than others. Mine does squeal when I first back out of my driveway. I reported it at my regular service intervals. The first time they said the caliper was sticking and they replaced it. The second time they said they couldn't replicate.

As David Williamson reported above, they can put some special grease like substance (obviously I am not that techy) on the brake pads and that should help. If it doesn't, and it still bothers you, you could try replacing the brake pads. All this assumes that they have checked the rotors and they are fine.

Of course, the simple answer is "don't drive in reverse". 😁

By the way...if you can replicate the noise, ask the service advisor to take a short ride with you in one of their equivalent loaners/test drive vehicles and see if the noise is the same. If it is, it may be in the normal range and you may just have a quieter car, otherwise, than you had previously. If it is not, you should then have the SA agreeing that your car is performing outside spec and it needs addressing.
