  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

every since it's turned cooler, my dash has been making an obscene amount of noise. popping, squeaky, creaking...every single bump or turn makes noise. it's loud enough to be heard over the radio and it's embarassing when i have passengers. it's making me insane. going to dealer, but i'm wondering if anyone else has had this issue. seems like just a cold weather thing...

try silicone spray.

are you sure it is the dash? I ask because last year I swore I had a dash rattle,,, the sound was coming from the passenger side of the dash (to my ear)... I eventually figured out it was loose item in the arm rest of the rear passenger door..

it is really hard (for me) to localize the source of sound in this car....

I figured this out by loading the car with 4 people and asking each person to say where the noise was coming from........

When it gets cold....My Altima makes all kinds of noises from all of the cheap plastic used......... and it is in the garage all the time. The GTO I had sat outside and never made a Noise.........Great way to tell garbage materials from Quality materials used in the cabin of a car.

thanks guys. yes, it's def the dash. at first i thought it was the sunroof glass, but i had a friend do the ear check and it was the dash. only occurs when the temps drop to low 60s and below. it was 37 this morning and it was terrible. going to the dealer tomorrow for a fix. i hope they'll handle it. i love this car and Hyundai and i'd hate to get soured on it. it's really embarassing to have passengers and all that damn noise on a car that's got 17K miles and is a year and a half old. my 9yr old Nissan doesn't even make this much noise. drives me nuts. lol...

Mine is a 2011 4.6 sedan and it has been as low as 27 here and the dash makes no noise.

I've noticed my 2009 V8/Tech now squeaks in the sunroof area while pulling out of the garage & driveway - basically when the chassis is subjected to a twisting road surface. I think it's the ceiling panel part of the sunroof, not the glass section. Does sound cheap though. I haven't driven the car in a week thanks to the holidays... drove the folks around in their Azera instead since it gets parked in the driveway blocking the garaged Genesis.

Stevecmitch: Hey, I had the SAME problem. Thought it was the dash for sure, and it would only do it when cold. The colder it got, the more annoying it became. At first it was a rattle, but then more of a squeak. Even low-speed bumps did it. Turns out, it was not inside the car at the dash but just outside the car coming from the plastic where the windshield wipers were. If you push on it, you will hear it squeak outside and inside the car. I just took a thick piece of paper to slide between that plastic and the windshield. Once I did that, the problem was completely gone. Just moved a bunch of dirt of of there and cleaned with a good glass cleaner real close to that plastic. No problems since!

Hope this helps you situation.

i've had it at the dealer 3 times now. the first time, they decided it was the pillars in the front and 'adjusted' them. no change. the second time, they 'replaced' the pillars, but this slightly fixed the drivers side and the passengers side is the same. it's in the shop again and they're still dealing with it. i've told them for a year that it's a cold weather issue and sounds like popping and creaking. it was quite chilly this morning so hopefully they were able to hear it. didn't hear from them today, so not sure if that's a good sign or a bad one. i do know they gave me a Caliber to drive and i freakin' hate it. lol. need my car back.

thanks for the great suggestions. i'll tell them to check it out the outside area with the plastic and wipers.

cheers.

I was wondering about this and then saw this forum post. I have a 2011 genesis coupe and I was hearing the same squeakiness. The temperatures, during this time, in Florida were below 60 as well. Now that the temperature has risen, I'll keep an ear out for the sounds next time I am driving.

I have the same problem, except that I dont think the sound is coming from my dash but somewhere near the passenger seat belt. Also the coupe has an wierd smell that I have been getting recently, I thought it was a bag or something stuck on the exhaust but the dealer check everything no problems found....other than that no complaints.
