  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi all,

I wanted to know if anyone experienced this (details below) with their g70.

Yesterday evening I was at a light and my engine turned off as the start/stop was on, but when I lifted my foot from the break the car stayed off and I got a message on the screen reading “turn car on manually”. The car would not turn on for some time, I was not sure what had happened, I called the genesis road-side assistance line and the operator said he had never heard of a problem like this and would dispatch a tow truck. Eventually after trying some more it did turn on and hasn’t had this problem since then but it is slightly concerning.

I picked up my car in April so I wouldn’t think the battery in the key fob would’ve died but I’m going to make an appointment at the dealership and I’ll keep you all posted.

Dang... As far as I know, at least one other forum member here experienced the same situation. Evidently it escalated to where he sold his car back to the dealer, because they were unable to resolve his issue.

Take a look below...

G70 2k miles having issues

Keep us up to date on what happens! Genesis corporate *should* know about it, as they were notified of this problem several times.

I think there may be a bug with the idle stop and go as Genesis calls it on the G70s. Unless it's just different from what I'm used to.

I recently had a G70 2.0t loaner car, I forgot it had this function and while sitting at a light, the car turned off (like it's supposed to) but it caught me off guard. I then pushed the button to turn it off. Normally in my wife's honda, this will turn on a light on the dash to show it's off. I didn't see anything light up on the dash except the light on the button. Didn't think much of it.

Took it to work the next day, turned off the function right away, still no light on dash. After work, started car up and guess what? Light on button is still on and light on dash is lit up showing it is off, so apparently there is a light on the dash. I thought after you turn the car off, it automatically turns back on once you start the car. In this case, it remained off even after 9 hours.

So later in the evening after I got home and had car parked. Went back out to go run some errands, turned car on, function was on as it normally would be, I then Pushed button to turn off, no more light on dash, just the button itself. Very weird.

I guess the good thing for me is, I have the 3.3t so one less thing to worry about.

Normally there is a green light on the dash with the symbol when it turns off the engine. Orange light means it is not active at the moment.

I went to my experience manager, he said he will raise it so Tuesday I should get an update from them on what’s happening!

To my understanding the start/stop will turn on every time you turn the car off and on again, the light on the dash is only supposed to show up if the car has the function on so if it was off and it showed up that’s really weird

So update on the situation: My car was at Hyundai Mississauga all week, the technician could not reproduce the issue right away, they asked if he could take it home to test it more as he drove it on the first day I left it with them, I allowed it, on the way back to the dealership the next morning it ended up stalling twice. They called some team called "Hi-Tech" apparently the 3rd party company they use to diagnose computer problems. Hi-tech identified it seems to be an error with the way the computer enforced the checks that need to pass before it can leverage the start/stop function, to be exact it was not reading the battery properly. They did some system restart and I now have my car back (received it today).

I will update if it stalls again. I'm glad to have my car back though I genuinely missed it aha

Hopefully your car runs ok now. On a side note, there seems to be a lot of us Mississauga Hyundai owners here

Update 2: so... yah its back in the shop for the same reason, technicians seem to be at a lose about whats wrong, sigh at this point im getting pretty annoyed with this problem thinking about raising it to Genesis Canada at this point because it seems to be something seriously wrong here.

Is there a TSB or recall on it as of yet or a potential solution?

Nothing I've been told yet, they want me to come in to do a test drive with the foremen who'll have some machine plugged in to try and capture what the computer spits out when it stops.... sounds like they have no idea what they're doing tbh...

Super late update (sorry really inactive on here): They ended up replacing the start stop motor and it hasn't been happening since! If this happens to anyone I hope you can send this thread to your dealership and hopefully it will expedite the process, I have a video of the problem as well which is what got them to replace the motor. I can send it to anyone who needs it to show genesis (its on my phone and I am making this post from my PC)

How long ago was it replaced?

I had a different issue with the ISG system. They diagnosed it to be a defective vehicle battery and replaced it. I shorted out the auto start stop switch and have no issues ever since. I don't like that system anyway.
