  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So question. The Nhtsa document says that the new relay will only provide power to the starter when the vehicle is starting as opposed to always.

My main question is will this affect the functionality of my Compustar remote starter? And also, will the car start any differently?

Any help is appreciated!

I wound imagine that the alteration will be transparent to everything before the starter, so no.

Thanks for the reply! My only concern was how the aftermarket remote starter interfaces with the car if that would be affected.

Got it done today. Remote starter works as it did before. The service advisor told me as long as the wiring is all under the dash and doesn’t tap under the hood it’s fine. I have a Compustar.

I'm having the fix done on my car tomorrow. Question for you...my understanding is that the relay kit is installed in the under the hood fuse box. What do you mean by "under the dash"?

Most (maybe all) aftermarket remote start kits install under the dash and do not require any extra wiring extending to the under hood area. The 12V Systems remote start that I installed only required two or three connectors to be disconnected and connected to the remote start unit, and those were all under the dash on the driver's side.

The add-on relay kit for this recall only involves changing some of the wiring under the hood, so there will be no conflict with the aftermarket remote start that only involved wiring under the dash.

@joegr ... OK, thanks. I didn't get that his main point was regarding his after market remote start that is installed/wired under the dash. You're a good information resource.

Yes, it’s all under the hood. What brand remote start do you have? I have Compustar.

I don't have a remote start. I was just confused by under the hood vs under the dash comments. Since I'm only having the recall, I now know this is all under the hood in the fuse box. Thanks for your input. Getting this done tomorrow.

Had this recall fix done today. No problems that I'm aware of. Took less than an hour.
