  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi guys. My 2015 Hyundai Genesis is my daily driver and been so for the past 6 months. Recently I've noticed steam coming from the radiator when the car is shut off after a long drive. It's definitely steam and not smoke. Coolant temp is normal, and so is everything else. Has anyone else dealt with this sort of issue? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

That sounds potentially serious, anything up to a blown head gasket. Get it looked at NOW.

Couple of possibilities. When you shut the engine down, water is no longer circulating and the radiator seems OK, but the block is hot. Pressure can increase a bit.

Radiator cap may have lost tension and is leaking by. Could be a pin hole in the radiator. Could be a hose leaking. It really has to be checked under pressure and see exactly where it is coming from.

Are you still under warranty? If so, BillZ is correct. To the dealer with the car.

If you are out of warranty:
1. I'd start with a new radiator cap. $10 replacement.
2. Top up fluids.
3. There are some test kits you can buy with UV dye additive. You use the provided glasses to see where the dye is coming from (one of the heads, radiator, etc.)

It only happens with its raining outside. Maybe it has something to do with the rain haha. On dry days there is nothing. I think i'm overthinking it. There is no steam from inside the hood, its literally coming from the front grill. Not sure what to make of it honestly.

Oh, that's probably normal then. The coolant temp going into the hot side of the radiator will be around 220F/105C and it's probably just boiling rainwater.
