  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Just saw two G70s behind their dealership on Kempt road. One 2.0 still wrapped but had regular chrome grill and one Red 3.3t sport with red stitching on black interior. Nice to see it in the flesh. Darker trim not as dark as I thought from the pics, does not bother me at all now. Also did not like red stitching in pics but looks real nice in real life.

Still not a fan of the very dark rims. Could not see the rims on the 2.0 as they had white plastic covers on them.

Do all Nova Scotia Hyundai dealers sell G70, 80 and 90 nowadays?

No and I don't think this dealer sells direct either. These were in back by the service bays and there were none out in the open on their main inventory lot. They may be the dealer that Genesis Canada uses in the area for the service, prep and for delivery of a demo vehicle. We do not have any boutiques in Nova Scotia at this time, but you can still request a demo from the Canadian website.

Sounds like continuing lunacy from Genesis Motors.

Which Genesis Morors did you mean. Not US. If Canada, then what lunacy is continuing?

Genesis Halifax (operated by Steele) is the only authorized Genesis retailer east of Québec. They're an at-home distributor, meaning they have demo vehicles and can sell cars, but exclusively online or at-home. No operator is allowed to sell Genesis vehicles from their Hyundai showroom. This applies across Canada.

Are there any plans for a Genesis boutique in Halifax at some point? I still prefer browsing in person.

Isn't it pretty obvious? Having only one Genesis dealer in the province of Nova Scotia is lunacy. Meanwhike, there are about 11 Hyundai dealers there. There are few enough Genesis vehicles sold in Nova Scotia, as well as Canada as a whole. Does anybody really think that this new sales concept makes sense?

They are probably doing the same thing they do in Edmonton. We have the boutique store at the mall with a few models inside and a few outside to drive. Then they "hide" the rest of their inventory at the back of Hyundai dealer lots. When I wanted to see some colors in person we had to drive a bit.

And when my car was washed and prepared for delivery, that work was done at Southtown Hyundai here in Edmonton and that is ultimately where the service will be done as well since Genesis doesn't have its own service center yet.

Still not perfect, but still so much better than having to fight between different dealers that may have different stock. At least all of the cars are owned by Genesis Canada and are all available.

All Genesis retailers across Canada will build physical showrooms (be it boutique or stand-alone) in the next few years.

You're welcome to your opinion on this, but it's the exact opposite of lunacy - it's the only thing that makes business sense. As a new brand asking for investment from its partners, we have to ensure their market areas are large enough and their throughput is high enough to offer a reasonable payback period on their investment. Moreover, splintering resources into a bunch of smaller communities that don't have the critical mass required to support a luxury store is a waste. Everything Genesis Canada is doing is intended to firmly establish the brand's roots and creating a true luxury customer experience, including showrooms as quickly as possible. Only when this is complete will expansion be considered.

You're also welcome to your opinion. My viewpoint is that it is a recipe for disaster. Folks who live in Glace Bay are going to have no interest in car shopping in Halifax, a 5 hour drive away.

Agree they probably would not make a 5 hour trip. The population of Glace Bay is about 20,000. Is that enough to support a boutique or dealership? All of Cape Breton is only 100,000. Would possibly make sense to sell Genesis through Hyundai dealers in places like that.

With respect, I don't believe there are any other luxury dealers in Glace Bay, either. You go where the customers are, which in this case means "enough to sustain a business." It's not that Genesis wouldn't love to serve those customers, it's simply not practical, which is why BMW and Mercedes don't either.

It has only been a few years since a BMW dealership opened in Moncton NB. Before that there was only one dealership in the maritimes, in Halifax, which is still the only dealership in NS.

How many BMW, Mercedes, Audi and Lexus dealers are in Glace Bay? Yet some of them must drive the cars? Ultimately this is who Genesis is trying to compete with and not Hyundai/Kia. The fewer locations is definitely an inconvenience especially as they get started, but I think it is necessary to get to where they ultimately want to be. Outright sales volume won't be the number one goal.

A dealer I spoke to was actually pleased to have more than the 100 (he was one) dealerships available. He felt that people on the far eastern part of the state wouldn't be pleased about driving, or having a dealer employee drive, their car 100 miles each way for service and would look to manufacturers with more local presence. With Hyundai dealers able to service, offer test drives, etc., he felt that he could compete against them on price (especially via internet), get the sale, and the owners could go wherever they chose for service.

This raised a couple of thoughts in my mind. One, if Hyundai dealers see the same logic, how would tht impact their interest in participating? Two, if the heart of a dealership is its service department (as many claim), then if customers are likely to go elsewhere for service, how does that impact revenue flow? And finally, how does three years of included service alter that equation?

Thoughts?

You are paying for the service years up front, I believe to genesis. Whomever does the service would then get paid by genesis.

There's a Cadillac dealer (MacIntyre) in Sydney, NS, virtually next door to the Hyundai dealer that serves "nearby" Glace Bay on Cape Breton Island. I rest my case. By the way, they have plenty of Cadillac SUVs on sale there.

May be different in Canada, but the fine print in the US has a 50 mile limit for concierge service. Only reason I don't have a Lamborghini is the dealer is over 100 miles.
