  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Same issue as other poster and I returned mine to the dealer the day after I bought it for PULLING to the left and an off centered steering wheel, the dealership acted like I was crazy. I refused to take the car home and it turned out the alignment was off and then repaired. Well I would have been fine if it did not happen 3 more times. Needless to say much more to this story but very unhappy with Hyundai!

This may not matter since I've heard of this issue on both sides but do you have the V6 or V8?

Re: Steering and Alignment

I bought a new Hyundai Genesis 3.8L V6 in Nov 2009.

Just within two days, I was experiencing a significant pull to the left hand side. I immediately took the car back to the dealership, and service dept. performed front wheel alignment.

However, when I started driving again, the issue still persisted and it is significant. I reported this issue to the dealership again and they have asked me to bring in the car back for re-check.

Apparently, this is a manufacturer's defect and could be a safety issue and must be reported to NHTSA via their website. If enough owners end up reporting this issue, NHTSA will investigate this issue and prompt a recall to address this issue.

I am cautioning any potential buyers to hold-off and not to buy into Hyundai Genesis glitzy commericals and marketing tricks as this could turn out to be a $35,000 to $40,000 fiasco.

I have reviewed many many complains about steering and either left or right side pulling of the car. It appears that dealers are unable to fix this issue and Hyundai as a company is keeping mum over this engineering defect.

It is incredibly easy for a non-lazy, competent alignment tech to correct this issue - it's hardly worth a recall, though Hyundai should publish a TSB for lazy dealers.

The problem (IIRC) is the rear wheel. Many are off just a bit from the factory. When checking the alignment using the specs provided by Hyundai, even cars that pull to the left will often technically be "within spec" (albeit on the high or low end of the variance) -- my experience has been, it needs to be DEAD ON. I went to three dealers and NTB before finally, someone took the extra time to get the specs dead on -- it tracked perfect after that.

Be persistent -- print the specs (I posted them in another topic in the suspension forum) and tell the tech to do a 4-wheel and ignore the tolerance -- you want it dead on spec. Make him print the sheet and don't accept delivery until the sheet matches the spec.

I sure wish I had read this before I had my car aligned... It still slightly.. They gave me the print out..I am sure it is not dead on. They just make adjustments until the numbers all turn green.

I really just wish the steering was more "centered". Not really sure how to explain it... I drove a jaguar recently, and it practically drove straight by itself. I feel like I constantly have to steer my car on the straightest of roads. Even after the alignment.

Thanks for the Info LLT. (I am still envious of the LS460 - everytime I see one I think of you trading for one.)

Take care,

Bob

Most of the cars came off from the ship (if they ship overseas) have alignment issue.
I had 4 cars here in the US and 2 of them did included one Mini Cooper S and Audi S4.
But when I point it out to my dealer, it get serviced right away. When I am picking up my BM about 1.5 years ago from the same dealership, I told them the story and history, the Bimmer I got this time has none issue. Looks like they either fix it before release or has no problem whatsoever.

Here's a point to ponder when thinking about the alignment problem: most roads are crowned (slightly convex shape) or slightly tilted to aid drainage of the road. The net effect of this is that this causes the car to pull slightly toward the "downhill slope", causing you to correct toward the "upward slope". You can definitely tell on a crowned road as you change lanes, the pull will change from one direction to the other.

If you want to check your steering for alignment, drive on a relatively flat stretch of road so you're not affected by the "crown effect".

Not to discredit anyone who has had real issues with their Genesis because I know you are out there, but 2 separate user names are created (both with only 1 post) with similar complaints and no one senses a troll in our midst? This post is 8 months old and was bumped by someone who obviously has an agenda.

Just purchased this same model and package . Does yours have the easy exit feature on it or not . Hyundai tells me its on the car the dealers just have to turn it on but every time i try a dealer they have no clue as to how to turn it on. Thanks T
