  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Steering Wheel Clicking Noise

I have attached a picture of the plastic clip(left side with blue mark) and location. The tab portion of the clip was twisted/deformed from wires pulling on the tab when turning the steering wheel . The wires turn/move slightly when the steering wheel is turned. This problem could exist in other cars. I don't know if I am the only luck one.

Picking up car tomorrow. Dealership stated they lubricated the four springs that are attached to airbag module and the creaking is gone. The springs serve to push back the horn module when it is depressed and also supports the airbag assembly. I will see in the morning. I looked at the springs once before and they are pristine. Another member on this forum stated that was the problem with his car and it was a good fix. Service rep stated he performed the test of manipulating the horn module and reproduced the same noise(but to a lesser degree of creaking) on a new car at the dealership. Will verify this too.

Picked up car this morning. After driving for about 30 minutes with and without service rep the clicking noise has disappeared. Amen! Lubricated springs.

Thanks rojo2223! Will have this looked at when I bring it in for service next time. My steering wheel is still making the same noises, usually from roughly 9 to 11 position when returning to 12 o'clock after a left hand turn, and when hitting some bumps. Maybe the new rigid collars will fix the problem when I have them put in tomorrow night (kidding...)!

Can I take off the airbag cover myself and lubricate? Do you have instructions by any chance? Thanks!

Is anyone experiencing this noise. After turning the steering wheel to the right or to the left and when the steering wheel is returning to home position I can hear a slight clicking or squeaking noise(where the airbag assembly and turn signal and paddle shifters are located). It is very annoying and does it from time to time. Dealer has replaced turn signal assembly and lane departure sensor in the steering column. Still the clicking noise can be heard . They say it cannot be the airbag assembly. Any ideas?

Thanks
I have 2018 G80 Sport doing the same thing. Dealer replaced the spring but it is still doing it. Now they are telling me that it is normal. (In what world???). It is an obvious design flaw and must be addressed by the manufacturer. Does not bode will for such an expensive car. Very disappointing. Everyone should call the Genesis Customer support and complain.

I had the same issue with my 2015 Genesis. At first the dealership said it was the clock spring assembly. they replaced it but the noise came back the next day
After leaving my vehicle at the dealership for a week, they determined that they needed to replace the airbag module. This seems to have corrected the issue as it's been perfect for about a week now and I dont anticipate the noise coming back. It was frustrating because they misdiagnosed it a couple times and the issue was intermittent so probably tough to diagnose quickly. Was repaired under warranty.

P. S.
Just read that someone had the spring assemblies lubricated and the noise ceased. Next time it goes in for service will ask the dealer to try it.

I had this issue and the dealer replaced the steering wheel clock spring. it solved the problem.

I still have the click. I have somewhat given up on it. If someone has a fix that will work, please let me know. My dealer is clueless. Now I am under the extended warranty, so it will even be harder to get them to fix it.

My G70 is only a few months old but started to do it. They looked at it during the first oil change. Not sure what they did but it disappeared for 2 weeks but it is now back with a vengeance :(

What happened to it now?

Car went back twice to have it looked at, each time it is solved for a few days (they lubricate it) but after a few days it returns. They don't know what to do. I live with it (for now). The only real annoyance (with the brake glazing).

Remove driver's airbag . Apply felt pad on contact point between driver's airbag springs and steering wheel. Noise will go away

need to remove the driver's airbag and apply felt on the steering wheel skeleton where the spring sit and the noise will go away

I have this issue on my 2015 3.8 AWD. The car is new to me, and this is driving me batty. Maybe a silly question, but would a bit of WD40 sprayed around the edges of the air bag cover be safe?

I would not do that. You will smell it for a long time, WD40 does not lubricate very well (it's made more to dry thing up than to lubricate them), and it may get into other things and wash the grease out.
It should not be difficult to remove the airbag and apply the felt pad fix indicated above.

I appreciate the input, however i’m definitely not comfortable removing my airbag.
