If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So the leather on my steering wheel us getting scuffed and now the dark brown is bleeding onto my jeans, pants and occasionally my shirt.
I really don't see putting a cover on it. Any suggestions? Should I take it to an upholstery shop and see if they can re-wrap with new leather?
A new steering wheels is a little excessive.....although I could pick up a KDM winged one.

Wut?
I'm confused, how is the steering wheel leather affecting your pants? What are your legs doing up near the steering wheel or vice versa? Leather has to be really wet for the color to run, why is your steering wheel so wet? Also, how is the steering wheel getting so scuffed that it's causing it to bleed? Just trying to grasp what could be going on inside your car here.

Steering wheel has never been wet.
I am a big guy - 6'2" 350 and my jeans brush against the steering wheel getting in and out (seat all the way back and wheel up as high as it goes). Over 3 years it has caused some scuffing. Now when I brush against it it leaves dk brown marks on my clothes.
I asked Tandy leather about a clear coat to put on it and they said scuffed leather should still not bleed dye.
I guess I could try the dealer - I have about 52k miles on the car but given other leather stories in here I won't hold my breath.
Just hoping for some suggestions. Most steering wheel covers look tacky...

Thanks

Ahhh, this makes sense now. I was thinking this was something that just started happening, not something that has been slowly occurring over time.

I didn't realize they died the leather, I thought it was processed and then painted, like the seat leather. Did Tandy say they couldn't do the clear coat? Regardless of wether it should or shouldn't bleed.
I would think you could reupholster the wheel for a reasonable amount, it's not a lot of leather, nor is it very intricate.

Can't you set your steering wheel to swing up when you stop the car?? (or seat back?)
