  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My 2009 V6 Genesis is 18 months old. I noticed today that the leather wrapping on the top of the steering wheel is rough and shows small cracks. This can't be from the heat because the car has very low mileage and stays in the garage when not in use. Anyone else noticed this? I will show this to my Dealer Service Advisor, but it would help to know if anyone else has seen this potential problem. Thanks!

While I haven't experienced this I can tell you that you have a 3 year 36 month warranty that will cover it. Have them replace it outright.

Check the build date on your car's driver's side door jamb - it will tell you when the car was built. It could have been built as long ago as 2008 and sat on a dealer lot for two years, drying the steering wheel out in the sun.

Update - I took my Ginny to the dealer today (Ed Voyles Hyundai in Smyrna, GA), and the Service Manager, Jason, took one look and ordered a new steering wheel rim under warranty, no hassle, no issues. This dealer gave me the lowest price when I purchased, and the service has been outstanding. If you are in the Atlanta area, this is the dealer to go to. They say they are the nations' largest Genesis dealer. Don't know about that, but I do know that they have been GREAT to work with. Many thanks to the folks that responded and suggested this course of action. Couldn't believe it was this easy - no push back at all. Thank you Ed Voyles for providing Lexus service at Hyundai prices.

You must have the "regular" interior; the top third steering wheel in my Genesis is wood.
