  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The dealer would know better than any of us. We can't see it. Take a drive by and ask.

It is a cosmetic, not safety issue. Years ago it was not uncommon for the plastic to shrink and crack but there is a steel core in the wheel. I've not seen it happen is probably 40 years or so.

I had a steering wheel start to peel before on another car that was under 2 years old and the dealer said it was not covered by the warranty but they replaced it as a good will gesture. Just try to butter them up first and get them in a good mood!

my 2018 steering wheel had leather damage, not sure how it happened (personally I think a tech snagged a tool on it) but dealer replaced it without question, the invoice cited "leather peeling"

This is an excellent example of why it’s intelligent to cultivate a good relationship with your dealer over the years. If you walk in with this kind of problem and they know you well, your resolution chances are much better.

Just had my steering wheel replaced on my 16’ G80 under warranty due to an extremely small stitch coming undone. I’m sure they would warranty that.

On my CPO 2016 ultimate, the steering wheel was "treated" by the dealer in Chicago prior to my purchase. They must have put some kind of polish/covering/etc. on the steering wheel that has since worn off. Everything looked and felt fine a year ago when I made the purchase, now parts of the steering wheel are shiny and some minor defects can be felt. Not a huge deal but I would like to clean it up. I am in St. Louis so I will ask my local shop what they can do on my next service visit. If they say no dice, might look into a restoration kit ... anyone have luck with a steering wheel restoration kit? Professional Steering Wheel Restoration Kit Plus | eBay. OR, I guess I could swap it out with a replacement (brown). Thinking that the 15-18 models all share the same part, will need to poke around and validate that the steering wheel is common (all have the same connections, buttons, heated, etc.). 2017 2018 G80 Steering Wheel Assembly W/ Buttons For 2017 2018 Genesis G80 Oem | eBay

Make sure the color matches and that it comes from a car with/without steering wheel heating. The harness (from what I've read) is different between the two.

My steering wheel was replaced without question, at about 32,000 miles.
Same issue you are describing. Both headlight assemblies were replaced at the same time.

I was in for an oil change a couple weeks ago and I asked the service advisor to take a look at my steering wheel as it is not holding up well (see post above from April 30th). After review, the dealership/Hyundai decided to replace the steering wheel under warranty. Very nice of them. The leather on the replacement is super nice, and it feels like the leather they are using on the G80 these days ... not as smooth as the leather that came on the 2016. The replacement steering wheel leather has a bit of "texture" if you will. The brown color on the replacement steering wheel aligns nicely with the brown leather above the gauges. Per the dealers paperwork, the total cost for the work was $880 (including the $60 Enterprise they put me in). I have a copy of the changes, posted here is the warranty invoice along with a couple images (including an old and new close up).

As an aside, I am not sure whey this happens, I seem to get XM Data from time-to-time. I am pretty sure I only have the music package, but sometime Weather and etc. services appear. Not sure if this is related to being at the Dealer, I just happened to noticed this after I picked the car up and was testing EVERYTHING out that I could before I left the dealership ... just to make sure all the steering wheel controls/features worked as designed.
