Steering wheel sticks at higher speeds

My steering feels pretty stiff at all speeds (Normal driving mode, Lane Keeping Assist disabled), but once I get up to about 35 mph I can literally let go of the steering wheel in the middle of a turn and it will just stick there. If I want to straighten out after a turn, I have to pull the steering wheel back into the straight position.

At even higher speeds (60+ mph) it gets much stiffer and I'm basically fighting the steering wheel in turns, which results in me zig-zagging in my lane since it's impossible to make fine adjustments.

I took it to a dealer and of course got the usual "You're probably just an idiot" line of questions/explanations. They asked if I disable LKA and told me that all cars have electronic systems that make steering tighter at high speeds for safety reasons, then they said it may be something called the Steering Wheel Controller Assembly (part# 56183-b1000). In all the research I've done, I've never come across a case where that was the problem. Usually the solution seems to be a Steering Rack replacement.

Has anyone else had this problem? And if so, what was the resolution?

I don't have a solution for you except perhaps to find a better dealer. Did they at least drive the car? If not, demand that they do before pushing you off. From your explanation it should be easy enough for a tech to see the condition. Sounds like it can be a serious problem. The Genesis is a great highway cruiser, but it takes proper steering.

I doubt they drove it but I can't really blame them since there's no easy access to a high-speed, curvy road nearby. The only roads that are 50+ mph are straight for several miles in each direction.

I did notice that the problem description on the invoice is missing a crucial fact. All it mentions is that the steering is stiff, it doesn't say anything about the wheel sticking (which was the very first thing I told them). Kind of crazy that the person checking in the car left out the most important detail... and I'm guessing that problem description is all the techs had to work with.

Guess I need to ask to speak directly with a mechanic the next time I drop it off.
