If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The tilt worked well after the TSB was applied about 18 months back. Then, several weeks ago, it started to fail to come down when the car was started. At first, it would go up automatically and the switch would bring it down, then the switch quit working and it stayed full up all the time. 34,000 miles on the 2009.

It did come down just once two days ago and since then it has locked in the perfect position. No automatic raise and lower and no response from the switch. Time to work in a visit to the dealer, I guess.

Have you tried the reset procedure?

Hi All,

I would like to update to you all two main things that my car just got fixed from Hyundai Dealler. Now, it runs like a charm.

My car is 2010 4.6 Genesis with tech package.

1) There is a Steering Wheel Limited Switch Campaign replacement done on Hyundai Genesis. I got the new limited switch steering wheel replaced 3 days
ago on April 23, 2012 from Huffines Hyundai Dealer of Plano TX. I did not know about it, but they keep my car when I brought them in for oil change.

2) My streering wheel was not straight. It is always tiltled slightly to the right (about 15 degree). At first, Hyundai service advisor said he did not find anything wrong with my car's streeing wheel. It was so uncomfortable on my everyday driving, so I had alignments done outside Hyundai from both FireStone and NTB services. Both of these places finally gave up. I brought all of these paper works to Huyndai. This time, they acknowdleged that my car really has the problem. Hyundai did 4 wheel alignment and set toe-in by 2. I don't really know what that means, but since then my car goes straight and my steering wheel is perfect now.

Both of these fixed were done under Hyundai warranty.

I hope this update is useful to you all.

Regards,

After 3 months of the steering wheel not moving vertically, I finally went to the dealer this morning. Unfortunately, the problem was not the limit switch this time. The module that controls the wheel movement failed. The dealer had to order a new module and it will take a few weeks to arrive.

It will take two or three hours to install the new module and test it. I guess my wife and I can see a movie nearby while they work on it.

The service dept at South Point Hyundai in Austin was great. My car came back washed and vacuumed.

My car has been at the dealer for 4 days now, having the limit switch replaced for the 3rd time, even though I brought the TSB campaign that replaces the entire module to their attention, they claimed the only part that would work for my VIN (production span) was the limit switch, which they replaced again.

I went to pick it up yesterday, and naturally the wheel wouldn't even tilt down when I first got into the car... I'm starting to wonder if heat exacerbates the problem, as the service department claimed that the wheel worked perfectly while indoors in the service bay.

Fortunately I had been given a 2012 R-Spec to drive, so I'm not really all that upset with my accommodations.

Today I got a call from the dealer that they did find a "compatible" module that will work with my production span, and they've had it overnighted for receipt/installation tomorrow. I'm being told that this should fix the problem for good, but will reserve judgment 'til I actually have it back in my possession for a couple of weeks.

I had it in for service and they implemented the TSB campaign -- not at my prodding, since it's been work fine since the last (second) time the limit switch was replaced. The wheel still moves up and down with no problem, and returns to the driving position on startup. But... the memory buttons are totally non-functional now. You'd think they would have checked that.

Plus, the first thing I noticed when turning it on was the check engine light. What is the matter with these people?

::Sigh:: I wish I had an answer. The service department at my dealership is very nice overall, but they just don't seem to listen to me when I bring in my car for problems - I had to wait an extra day for the diode replacement when my brake lights wouldn't work, even after sharing what I researched prior to having the car towed in. The service manager insisted it was just the brake light switch under the dash and had that replaced, just to find that it was still failing afterward. That wasted another 4 plus hours of my time, and they finally looked into the diode replacement that I mentioned even before showing up!

This tilt mechanism has been problematic since 4 months after taking delivery. You'd think after me bringing it in for the 4th time, they'd listen to me about this, too. They "said" they would have done TSB 12-01-001-1 but my car didn't fall into the production date range for the module mentioned. Funny how after I personally demonstrated the tilt mechanism not working (like it was stuttering and wouldn't travel full length in any direction) their regional service department somehow found a "compatible" replacement module that they ordered.

I forgot to report back on the tilt steering issue, but am happy to report that even though my VIN didn't match the TSB campaign range noted below, when I finally got the tilt mechanism to fail in front of the service manager (it was behaving at all other times, naturally) they somehow found a "comparable" module for my VIN series, replaced it, and now the tilt/memory works as it always should have.

I have experienced this problem. bought my 09 in 1/2010 so im still covered with the electronics. what is the reset procedure?

I'd say take it back again, and make sure that the service manager SEES the failure to operate in person. Honestly, I had been back to the dealership no less than 6 before I got this remedied for good, and now it's working like a charm. Don't give up!

I'm just curious if folks who have experienced repeated failures of the steering wheel tilt/telescope after it was "repaired" by the dealer also have their "Easy Access" feature turned on?

My 2009 Genny (40K miles) has been in the shop multiple times for a failed/failing steering wheel tilt/telescope. I used to have the "Easy Access" feature turned on, thus every time I started and stopped the car, the steering wheel would stow to full retract and full up or extend and lower to my desired driving position.

I'm wondering if part of the problem is that the "Easy Access" feature is "burning out" the tilt/telescope switch? After my last repair, I turned off the "Easy Access" feature (primarily because the last time my steering tilt/telescope failed, it failed in the full retract and full up position which made the car virtually undrivable for me).

Are there folks out there who do not have "Easy Access" turned on, and who do not do much (if any) steering wheel adjustments, who are still experiencing failures of the tilt/telescope switch?
