If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'd like to make a list - for Hyundai - with steps (our opinions) that would lead to a better Genesis.

The list should consist of:

1. What's needed
2. What's not necessary, but would be nice
3. What should be removed, if anything

Let's help Hyundai compete with the big guys even more so than they already are...

Ok...here are my thoughts

1.)WHATS NEEDED
-The ability to turn ESC completely OFF. She is a heck of a ride...to bad she is still wearing training wheels!
-A cooled passenger seat as well
-An icon/button to STOP not SUSPEND a route on the navigation screen.
-REAR DVD ENTERTAINMENT for the kids (I think this is already in work according to my dealer)

2.)Not necessary, but nice
-Adaptive Cruise Control in the STATES.
-Your speed visible on the NAV screen.
-Heck, why not a heads up display like the Corvette:o
-Fully folding rear seats
-Availability of a supercharger that will be warrantied (if installed by dealer) for life of warranty.
-A little more resonance from the V8 exhaust. C'mon, a little rumble would be nice!

3.)What to remove
-The "H" logo from the steering wheel and trunk. Replace with the wings.
-The "Whisper valves" in the exhaust system
-Hmmmm....well, thats all I can think of! HA! That is a good thing!

Well, those are my thoughts! If I think of anything else....Ill revise my post!

the seats do not fold because of the presence of rear stabilizer bars that are within the framework of the vehicle that if were removed would compromise the cars agility, handling and performance out of the RWD that ppl are looking for. this is why MOST RWD cars do not have split-fold seats.

id like to see cooled passenger seats also and 20 inch wheels on the v8.
i like the g logo but i think it should only be on the back. you'd be doing your name an injustice if you try to hide the thing completely. it'll be like your buying a clone or similar to buying kelloggs frosted flakes or food lion's store brand.
id also like to see height adjustment available on the passenger side also. and possibly heated and cooled seats for rear passengers maybe too.

Nice list PingGolf. I'd like to add a couple:

1. AWD option for those of us that live in colder climates.
2. V10 or V12 with cylinder shut-off technology.

1. What's Needed

- Redesign the trunk to <1> minimize the amount of water that's captured inside the trunk lid, and <2> direct runoff such that it doesn't drip inside the trunk compartment when the lid is open.

- Firmware change so that meters/gauges (e.g. MPG calculator) are reset only when initiated by the operator, not at fuel refill, etc.

- Allow FF/REV of CDs/DVDs from the steering wheel audio control button (a defined feature in the owner's manual that does not work)

2. Not necessary, but nice

- Enhance TPMS functionality to display PSI reading for each tire.

- Add a second MPG calculator (one for short-term measurement, one for long-term).

- Add a coinholder

- Install carpet/fabric along the bottom of door storage bins so items don't move when accelerating/braking.

- Delete DIS disclaimer after 100 start-ups.

- Option for heated/cooled seats in the rear.

Had no clue....KEEP THE PASS THROUGH SEATS AND THE RWD!!:o

It is good to see a dealer, which I would think that you are, know more about his products than I!:D The guys I dealt with did not. I trained them how to operate the dream machine and they even went to a Ride and Drive event.:o

I wouldnt remove the "H" to cover up what I am driving...it is still on the wheels. This is the Flagship of Hyundai...The wings logo is cooler than the "H" which is why, I think, they manufactured the car that way in Korea. Also, I like people to ask me if it is a Bently or an Aston Martin!:p

Oh yeah...I love "Loops of Fruit" instead of "Fruit Loops!" :) Good anaolgy!

Its great to have you here and we look forward to your in depth comments!!!

What's needed?

1) More training for Hyundai salespeople to enhance the buyer's experience when purchasing the vehicle. This isn't an Accent you're selling.

I have some other things probably, but this is the first thing that popped into my head while being on the phone at work.

Buick did this with their Riviera.. It had NO Buick logos on the outside - Just "R"s. Inside, there was one mention of Buick:

Riviera
by Buick

From this point on, let's keep the discussion at a bare minimum and simply allow this thread to be what we want to see.. I'd rather not discuss which ideas are good and bad, etcetera. I just want Hyundai to come here and see what we want, what we like and what we don't like..

Thank you...

offer an optional "S" version with a sport suspension/wheel package for both the V6 and V8.
different spring and damping rates with slightly beefier sway bars. One inch wider wheels with 'summer" type tires. Maybe a rear spoiler included.
Blacked out trim instead of chrome accents.
Have that be the version that we can completely shut off the ESC on.

no problem, i try to pride myself on knowing as much about an accent as a genesis so the customer doesnt feel any stones are unturned, ill be more than happy to answer any questions, and HYUNDAIGENESIS i didnt state whether or not his opinion about logos was good or bad. i simply said what i'd like and why i wouldnt like the other. just like ppl want folding seats but dont know why there is no folding seats. ( hence that that maybe be a good but thats why it may be a bad, im just trying to help from a dealers perspective and i deal with this car everyday and other consumers that are on the car too) thats all but its your board and ill do what you ask to the best of my ability.

Okay. My request wasn't directed at anyone in particular..

Eventually I will remove all discussion from this thread and leave it with advice for Hyundai only...

I think a cheap, but needed addition would be an under hood light. Imagine just doing a jump start at night . . .

Opps - the battery is in the trunk. Are there terminal posts in the engine compartment?:p

It would be nice if Hyundai can add a "mini" rain cathcing gutter to the side of the car so that when you open the door(s) on a rainy day it will stop the water from dripping down to the inside.

Well, it might go to 2) Not necessary, but nice...

According to korean news, Hyundai will produce GDI engine from late 2010 and this engine wil go into genesis, HG(next gen of azera) and vi.

They didn't specified if they were talking about 3.3 kdm genesis or 3.8 (I think it's more likely 3.8). They actually tested Lamda GDI on genesis. It consumed 5% more fuel but it shortened 0-100km/h from 7 sec to early 6sec.

Also another interesting news is that they have a plan to produce their 8sp tranny from 2010 as well. (they finished the development of own 6sp tranny this year and the production begun from this year August. Perhaps, new engine with new tranny?

Sync the Phonebook from my phone to the DIS very time the bluetooth connects.
WiFi so I can sync my MP3 collection to the 500GB hard rive when park the car in the garage.

Regrets if any of this is untrue in US - I am in Canada. I have a V6 with Tech (no Nav) so Your Mileage May Vary.

1 - fix trunk rain water issue - ASAP. Make a retrofit available.
2 - revise turn signal stalk - I find myself turning off the auto lights unintentionally when signalling.
3 - power pedals, or much greater stroke on steering wheel (I'm 6'2 with long legs - I'm still trying to get the setup just right). Map the memory feature to the keyfob so I don't even have to touch the button (I'm lazy).
4 - more interior storage - lose the cig lighter or make it removable from a useful storage spot, as others have done. Line all storage with cloth or other non-slip surface.
5 - add bluetooth to tech package. I don't want a full nav pkg (which costs over $5k in Canada), but I miss the bluetooth.
6 - up the power on the heated seats. try a BMW for an example - they go from frozen to toasty in 15 seconds, the Genny takes 2-3 minutes and still isn't nearly as warm, even on three.
7 - Heat the steering wheel! A friend had this on an 04 (I think) Infiniti I35 - GREAT feature!
8 - have a native speaker edit the manual - the Korenglish is awful in places.
9 - Use the KDM winged logo. I'm not ashamed to be driving a Hyundai, but that logo is much more in tune with the lux/sporting nature of the car than the funny little H which works so well for the cheap and cheerful Accent etc.
10 - folding rear seats, but only if the structure can be beefed up in some other way - DO NOT SACRIFICE PERFORMANCE OR HANDLING.
11 - "S" version or package tuned more aggressively.
12 - more rigidity in body panels - hood, roof, fenders etc. feel a little flimsy when polishing after waxing. DO NOT ADD WEIGHT.
13 - more colours and interior trims, and greater flexibility in selection.

Lastly - BUILD THEM IN NORTH AMERICA. I'm not a "Park your Toyota in Tokyo" unionist (obviously, since I bought a Hyundai), but some issues we are talking about in these forums (fora?) such as dealer training/response, speed to market, availability of different models, versions, upgrades and aftermarket support would be greatly improved, not to mention it would remove one more barrier to purchase for many in USA/Canada.

regards,
cmr

Many good suggestions, but the most impt. major improvement imo would be direct-injection (more so than cylinder shut-off).

Tho AWD would be very nice for those living in snowy climates.

The 4 cyl turbo GDI is purported to produce over 280+ hp - maybe that will be the future engine for 3.3 KDM Genesis?

Coming from a mercedes background (sl 55 amg)
what i really mis is the rearviewmirror that auto adjust when the
chairs get in their memory position.
I know, it sounds probably stupid, but it's so nice to not do that manually.

When i unlock the car with my key it would be nice if the seat went into
my stored memory position prior to getting in. After my wive has used the car i have to "crawl" in and press the corresponding memory button to adjust it to my settings.

My wife complaints about the fact that the passenger seat is not adjustable in hight. She is fairly short and has problems looking further ahead.

canceling of navigation routing should be made easier/logical.

ending a telephone call via the tech package could be made easier.
Instead of "down in menu" and then "end" a directly usuable end would be more conveniant (imho)
