  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

This is a question about a Coupe only, so please don't move it to another unrelated section!

I have had cars that would get a musty smell in the AC vents, but this is a different smell. I have had the coupe a couple of months now and this just started in the last 3 days. It is most strong when you start the car after it has sit for a while and the first air comes out the vents. It is a strong pungent odor that smells like a cross between something burned up and something rancid. It is not at all like a dead rat. This smell is more like something synthetic.

I cleaned the dash to take off the armor all and the leather dressing off the seats to see if that changed anything. The smell is definetly coming out the vents. Seems like it would be way to early to need a new filter in the ventilation system!

My Genesis Track is garage kept and seldom gets wet lately until I wash the car once every week or so. My ventilation controls seldom move from automatic set at 68 degrees.

Any Ideas??

You might as well check the filter anyway. My vents will blow the pungent smell after letting it sit for a few hours after using the A/C. I know I need to replace my filter and I have a little over 11k miles on it.

Wife's coupe has same smell and has less than 2000 miles on it. I thought wiring was burning. She only lets me drive it on Sunday's lol and it had been parked for a few days in the garage. Very strange issue.

Maybe that was a skunk you hit in the middle of the road.:D

Great, now we got stink coming from the forum. Maybe you should keep the day job:D

Haven't had this happen on ours. Will keep nose out for it. 11k seems a bit soon to be replacing cabin air filters but I guess it depends on your driving environment.
