  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I like the design of the stock 18" wheels on my 2015 AWD car but the painted portion of the spokes makes the wheels look to me as if they are covered with brake dust. What's an affordable way to 'unpaint' the wheels without damaging them and can such work be done with the tires still mounted to the wheel (off the car obviously :D).

The wheels have a powder coated finish. Only way to 'unpaint' then is to media blast off the finish and have them re-powder coated or painted. Not cheap. Probably in the $150+ range (per wheel) assuming the wheels have no curb rash or repairs needed.

Cheap way is the plasti dip them. Basically a thick paint that can be easily removed if desired. That can be done without removing the tires. Mask tires and paint away.

You could also spray paint them. I don't recommend that.

Completely forgot about plasti coating. Worth checking into. Thanks.

No need to mask the tires. Plastic dip peels/rubs off.

I used the index card method when plasti dipping some wheels a few years back.
