  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Just traded in my 2020 G80 in on a new GV80. Really like the vehicle but hate this stop/go feature. I did not have this on my G80 and now having regrets in trading. I know you can manually turn on/off every time you start the vehicle. This feature is very annoying with A/C going on/off, etc. Can the dealer set this to be off by default and option for users to use if they so desire? This forcing the issue is a bad deal to me... I hate to do some bypass measures not know what all the effects on the system will be.. thanks

Apparently the dealer cannot set it to be off by default. I also don’t care fit this featrue and have taught myself to turn it off after starting my car, just a minor inconvenience for me.

Maybe just Australian models but the petrol version doesn’t have this feature but the diesel does. It’s one of the reasons I went with the petrol.

Pretty much all new cars have the default to on/off feature. You can blame CAFE standards for that. On/off now only gets counted towards a car's fuel efficiency rating if it is the default setting. I have read on other forums for other vehicles that there are ways to change that setting with third party products that make changes to the car's software. I don't know if this is feasible for the GV80 or if such a third-party product is yet available.

EDIT: to be clear, CAFE standards only require on/off to be the default in normal driving mode.

Mine doesn't always initiate, there are things that must be met for it to turn the car off. I don't mind it as when the a/c falls below the set temp the car restarts itself and the a/c starts to blow at full speed again. But I've also found that once you come to a complete stop if it shuts off and you don't want it to all you need to do is lightly raise your foot off the brake then brake again and it will restart without stopping again for that braking period. There is a function that says it must be going at least 8 mph before stopping for it to engage. So if I feel I need it to start again I just do that. But honestly I've gotten use to it. I know it will restart when the a/c needs it. However the first few times that happened while my foot was on the brake I thought someone tapped me from behind and had to look in my rearview mirror to be sure because the car moving when my foot is on the brake is a strange sensation. Or you can press the button by your left knee and it will remain off until you turn the car off. I thought I'd hate it but I really am getting use to it. The car is so quiet when it's off even for the duration of a light cycle. Here they can be 3-5 minutes so it's a nice break.

I find that it works well on my ‘19 Santa Fe. Here’s the rub. In these Covid times of short trips and little use, the battery doesn’t like ISG and it soon keeps it from functioning. No loss really, except that in a GV80 your not-so-great gas mileage is really going to suffer.

By the way, some have been known to wedge a piece of toothpick, or plastic, into the switch. They say it works. I’m sure that looks good in a $70,000 vehicle.

For people that have found the start/stop an issue, is it the 2.5 or 3.5 you have? With the 3.5 I have found it to be one of the better systems, with no delay on progress and little/no noise sensation on startup. I have driven rentals with this feature where it shook the car on startup and you had to wait for the engine before you could progress from a traffic light. The system working on the brake pedal seems to be the way to go from a start up perspective. The only hiccup I noticed was once when I was slowing for a traffic light that changed just as the engine stopped, starting the engine virtually immediately after it stopped caused a small clunk from somewhere.

I don't usually have it on. I didn't buy this car to be a gas saver. Though I don't follow it religiously, my routine is to turn Auto Hold on and Stop/Go off when I start the car. I wish these could be set to default as I wish.

I have the 2.5T and you do notice the start. Not terrible, but sometimes it does shake more than other times. My wife's 2021 Audi Q5 2.0T is almost imperceptible when restarting. Very smooth. If the G80 was like that, I would probably leave it on.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Sharkracing.com has ISG defeat for most Hyundai vehicles. Put one on my palisade last weekend. Takes 10 minutes if you are electronically inclined.
When you start the car as long as the door is closed it sets ISG and Autohold to the last used position.

For me that is ISG off and Auto Hold on.
The door closed appears to be a Hyundai requirement to engage autoold.

when Auto Hold is on the stop and go is more noticeable. If auto hold is off it's almost unnoticeable. At least in mine which is a 3.5.

I just sent an email to Sharkracing on the ISG module being available on the GV80. Would definitely be interested if/when it is available..

I agree -- I never really noticed it until I happened be using the Auto Hold function. It felt like someone bashed into me. If I use the Auto Hold - I turn off the start-stop feature.

I’ll reply to my own post here. It will be interesting to learn if Genesis owner’s experience the same loss of ISG function that other Hyundai owners have noted due to less driving during the Covid times.

Thanks for info. I'll need to give it a try. However, I prefer Auto Hold over ISG.
