If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi All
A strange rattle developed recently....it comes from somewhere behind navigation unit from what i can tell. Its sounds like a loose piece of plastic rubbing and hitting inside that area.
What is strange about it is the fact that this rattle starts only after I park the car outside in the sun and disappears after the car is cooled down
Any similar experiece?
Thx

is it coming from the a/c vents? turn off the hvac and see if it disappears. when my fan is on medium to high something flutters in my a/c vents unless i turn the deflector all the way to the left. something to try anyway. good luck :D

Tried that already to no avail. I will go to the dealer next week.

I’m experiencing a similar problem, generally under deceleration when the speed reaches about 30km/hr or less - e.g., when I’m coasting to a stop. This only happens from time to time and the sound can best be described as a faint fluttering noise (like a plastic blade hitting the housing) coming directly behind the multimedia screen and which, by the way, happens even when the hvac is turned off.

This started approximately in the 6th month of ownership and I took the car to the dealership just prior to the first anniversary. Of course, the condition could not be recreated at the time - the technician told me that they would have to take the dash apart to try to identify the source and that it might not be reassembled as tightly as when it’s done at the factory.

Given that there was absolutely no guarantee that the dealership could isolate and fix the problem and the fact that I might be subjected to more noises coming from behind the dash later on, I simply decided to learn to live with this intermittent, faint (yet very annoying) noise.

Please keep us posted on what happens.

Given the fact that this rattle occurs only after my car is parked outside in the sun I will try to grow it on me. I keep hearing about horror stories about other cars that got the dashboard dismantled for the purpose of fixing one rattle noise only to end up with several more rattles later on...

I have good news....i fixed this annoying rattle! it turns out the rattle was coming from the plastic housing right behind rear view mirror. What is very interesting though is I could've have sworn this rattle sound was coming from the dashboard!
Anyway long story short i am happy to report the rattle is gone.

How exactly did you fix it?

I have inserted couple of felt pieces between the upper side of the plastic cover and the edge of headliner.

If you have a rattle and can't tell where exactly it's coming from but think it's in the dash somewhere, the cowling under the hood needs felt pads as it was a service advisory or bulletin.

That SIB was already addressed. In my case the rattle seemed to come from the dashboard because, as with many other rattle sounds, it was reflected to the dasboard area. I found the source by pure luck while i was looking for any loose parts on the rearview mirror.

Bump up old thread. I'm having this issue right now lol. sounds like it's behind the nav more like passenger side. I will check my rearview mirror tomorrow lol.
