  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So im purchasing a 2019 g70 3.3t advanced in the next 2 weeks im looking at 2 of them. One of them is super clean has very impressive service records with less then 70k miles on it, but its missing a strut support bar on on the driver's side. Ive tried to research it but im comming up with alot of contradicting info.

Anyway my question is, what if any damage could be caused by the previous owner.. driving that car without the strut support bar there for extended amounts of time..

Any responses are greatly appreciated its gonna be a delivery with a 7 day return for full refund. And planning to get it looked at before the 7 days are over. If I pick that one. Just dont want to risk loosing the shipping cost if thats a huge red flag.

Thank you again.

I wouldn’t be too concerned, I doubt it would have caused an issue. One thing to look for is the delamination on the entertainment/radio screen. This was a common issue that was covered under warranty but if it’s out of warranty could be a costly fix.

It's a major red flag. That bar is vital for structure.
Driving without it strains the suspension. Components like bushings and shocks wear faster. Alignment is likely off, causing tire wear.

It strongly suggests a prior accident or shoddy repair. The service records can't be trusted now.
Choosing this car is a big risk. Pick the other one. The potential hidden damage isn't worth it.

Those are NOT strut braces, which typically ties the two strut towers to each other and/or to the firewall/bulkhead.

The ones on the G70 are actually radiator supports. Short term, driving around without them is not really a big deal. However, I wouldn't want to do that for prolonged periods, as your front radiator stamped-steel bracket will tend to distort ever so slightly when cornering and going over big bumps. That will put a strain on things attached to the bracket (radiator, intercooler, etc.).

Who know what happened to the missing bar. If that is the only issue, maybe not a big deal. But if there are already other warning signs, then maybe think twice before going ahead with it. 70k is a lot of miles; a lot could've happened. Buying used is a gamble, any way you slice it. I'm okay with it as long as all indications appeared to stack in its favor. The more !!! and ??? there are, the more I'd want to look elsewhere.

Did a carfax they replaced tires every 10k miles or less and front driverside on one report showed very bad abnormal wear. To the outside edge. I stayed away from it purchased one with 37k miles . Thank you all for your helpful input.

Good call, going with the other car. @Glasman888 was very correct with his post.

Good luck with the G70. Post up some photos when you get a chance.
