  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Has anyone experienced their strut mount/plate being cracked. Isn’t this covered under warranty for the car or no? Probably hit a bad pothole.

my passenger side one is cracked.

Yeah, must have been a pretty hard hit. It looks like the strut was driven up and almost through the aluminum mount. I haven't seen this before.

This happened to me on my lowered G70 after a huge unavoidable pothole. I was able to replace it with parts and labor totaling $663. You will need the entire upper strut mount piece (a shop will know what part to order). You run a risk of the strut going through the mount even further if you hit another big pothole with an already broken strut mount. When I heard that, I got mine in the shop asap to replace it.

I would get it spot welded.
The piece itself is cracked. The pressure from the weight of the car acting on it means the pieces are misaligned and will never be realigned perfectly again. I guess you could spot weld it, but why run around with that holding the front strut in place?

Please don't give advice like this. If this is as good as you can provide, leave.
What is wrong with my suggestion? Just because its not what YOU would do doesnt mean its not its not valid. Sometimes people have financial constraints and cant always afford to do things the correct way when it needs be done hence my suggestion. It would work until you had enough money to get it done right; if money was an issue.

What is wrong with my suggestion? ...
It could be different if we were talking about a ten year old car. Certainly, the owner has over-extended themselves if they can't afford to fix this on a three year old car. At worst, it should be there insurance deductible, as this should be valid accident damage. As for what could be wrong with the suggestion, if nothing else this improper repair could be used as a reason to deny warranty coverage on the rest of the suspension on that corner of the car.

I have the same problem but worse. My mounting plate on the driver's side came up through the mount (see picture). The aluminum plate that sheared is probably less than .040" thick. It doesn't seem to be thick enough to take the pounding of the shock. I blew a tire but there was no damage to a 21" wheel. I would hope that it is covered under warranty but since my dealer is over 100 miles away he will not actually seen it (other than in pictures) and put in a claim until I take it in. Based on the pictures they ordered parts but parts are not available for about 2 months.

Other than this mishap, I really like my GV70. I have 2200 miles with no other problems. My only complaint is that the car has too many features for an old man to comprehend and many have been hard to find instructions to set in the manuals.

See post #4.
According to him, that's all that's needed. You'll be fine. Maybe check the alignment...

Seems like I have seen this 2 or 3 times before this post. Made me go out and look at mine. Luckily all good for now.

3rd time for me. Just unlucky I guess. MSRP for strut mount ~$530. Found genuine hyundai part online for $95. Trying to do it myself. Can't get the lateral arm ball joint out of the knuckle. Tried with my 68 y.o. muscles 5lb. sledge and some heat. Still no go. May have to buy Hyundai tool for $95. Still ahead of the game. Manual says nut torque 78 ft. lbs., but couldn't break the nut, even with a breaker bar. Thanks Mr. Mechanic who did the last change.

@ Michael_V // Why isn't this a warranty item on your G70?

The only answer that I have is that the repairing dealer would not let me file a warranty claim. I've got the broken parts to show the NTSB if they sometime want to investigate.

I have 80,000+ miles on the cah.
5yrs/60K on similar incidents.
10 years/100K is for powertrain.
The previous 2 incidents were covered. Not this time.

updated I was able to fix this with the dealership for free. they were giving me a hard time at first.

My guess is that it will not be covered under warranty, but as stated in one post, would be a valid insurance claim. Get an estimate. They need to put it on a lift and check for other damage.

Ooops, just saw your update. Good news
