  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I was going to work and saw pieces of tire on the road. Only tiny pieces so I just continue on and then suddenly I see a small piece, probably a size of a baseball or a little bigger, coming from the left and hit my bumper. I'm betting the semi truck couple lanes left of me sent it my way. :(

It's not as bad as I thought it would be but man.... Got an estimate of $275 from a shop to fix it. This sucks. I'm contemplating if I should live with the dent or not since I plan to keep this car until I hit 100k miles or it dies. I got this car repaired from an accident earlier this year too. Ughh!!!!

Hmm...maybe this is my chance to install the fog lights. Too much money!!!!!!

sorry to hear that man. I think we have all been there.... you see a rock or debris or something coming and its like NOOOOOOOO!

I understand, hope you are able to get her back to new!

Man that sucks. That being said, if it were just a ding I'd probably let it slide, but with that portion that looks like it's peeling, I'd probably have to get that repaired for my own sanity.

I hit an entire strip of tread with the G37 I had. Ripped the entire front underbody off. $1000. I think the retread tire companies should pay for these repairs...

That's what I was thinking after posting this.

I'm thinking "this is my current dream car that I can afford and love and want to keep it for as long as I can. *looks at the dent* Crap, looks like paint is going to come off. *Calls back the shop to set up an appointment."

Did you shop around to get other estimates?

Get it repaired since it is peeling and looks like a little crack. It will only get worse over time if you don't get it repaired properly.

Might be worth an insurance claim. Wasn't exactly your fault!

Honestly - I'd pop the part on the left side of the crack back into place.... and see what it looks like. It might not look noticeable enough at that point to warrant cashing in your deductible and putting your car in the shop for a week - and instead wait for more significant marring of the front end to warrant a replacement.

I'm definitely not filing a claim on this one. I did try to pop it back out, but it was difficult. The fog light items behind it were in the way and the only way to even have a good chance of properly doing it is by taking off the front bumper and unscrew everything behind.

I also discovered because of the indent, it created a small opening in the bottom corner of the black cover. Not sure if it's big enough to let stuff in like water, but it is noticeable from the front when looking at it closely.

BOO! sorry to hear. i'd leave it for a week or two and see how much it bothers you.

almost the same thing happened to me about 3 weeks back. I was able to move enough that the tire just glazed the driver's front. it still pushed the black inlay in at the bottom though. broke whatever was holding it. took the car in for repair at the dealer and they kindly fixed it for free. I was impressed! there was not paint or bumper damage though, just that black inlay pushed in.
